I have a home network of 3 PC's running XP home connecting to the Internet through ADSL (each PC connected to the router)

Does anyone know of a solution whereby Windows updates can be downloaded to one PC with the other two getting their updates from there instead of updating from Microsoft as well (x3)? I looked at WSUS, but it appears I need a server...

Yes, you need a server edition of Windows for WSUS to work. Looks like Home Server is not supported either. Unless, of course, you feel up to downloading all the updates manually.

What you can do is get a local-only account, set up Route Sentry on one of the PCs and update using local bandwidth. In your case, this seems to be the best solution.
