I've just spent 350MB of my cap download Windows Updates on my notebook - but I'll need to apply these to my desktop at home as well.

Is it possible to copy the update files from the laptop through to the desktop? Or do I need to download another 350MB on that machine?

Wouldn't mind keeping the updates for future use as well, incase I need to format.

Ja, there is a folder that they are sometimes kept in, but usually they are deleted :(

Next time just use AutoPatcher....

That's so stupid :(

I got my PC last week, downloaded about 300MB updates, crashed after a few days and needed to reload the 300MB. That 300MB excluded SP3 which someoe (luckily) gave me.

Now it seems I've going to need to do 350MB x 2 again *sigh*

It was... this new version is just an engine... that you load up... and that engine grabs the updates for you direct from the MS Servers. So you are now getting them direct from Microsoft rather than a third party (which was the issue before). Now, you just have to keep your entire AutoPatcher folder as a backup... and you can re-run the engine anytime to grab the new updates! :)... and you can use the same AutoPatcher Folder on any computer.

Of course it is! :confused:

Why would MS release it... if it was not "worth it"?

It fixes numerous vulnerabilities and speeds up the average computer.

I have never had a problem with it on any of my systems.
 
Then they would probably have patched most of those by now... it has been more than six months since SP3 was released and there are a number of important new updates that come after SP3. If you have still not yet upgraded your system is probably extremely vulnerable. The benefits outweigh the concerns about not upgrading.

Ive turned off automatic updates a long time ago - it's just not worth it.
 
AFAIK windows updates are stored in the C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution folder. Replace C with your system drive.

Its probably not worth the effort - automatic updates stores the files in the above folder, but you won't know which ones to run.

Just do another update off the net.
