I have a couple of computers at home

2 Win XP Prof
1 win XP home
1 Vista ultimate

the question is can you upgrade Xp to win 7? of a diff version

win xp prof - > win 7 home prem
win xp home -> win 7 home prem
vista ultimate -> win7 prof ?

I think you can only upgrade from Vista to 7, XP requires a complete re-install.

Second that. You cannot simply upgrade. You need to format your HDD and install Windows 7 from scratch.

no worries I am gonna format anyways.. I am talking more along the lines of legal licenses with the upgrade key being cheaper than the full key

It seems that nobody stocks the upgrade options though.

Seems you can buy it directly from Microsoft:
Home Premium
Professional

Not exactly cheap though.
