Well I've just installed Avast and now my security Centre says I'm up to date...If you don't install an antivirus program Security Centre will warn you that it's unsafe...

Hi Disabled - I also received my copy yesterday and installed it on a new partition - going uhm uhm at the moment - re antivirus - you can install eTrust EZ Antivirus for free Version 7.1.9 (including a year's subscription) which is accessible via MS Vista's site. Don't know what your issues are with Windows Defender but it installs it by default. I have no issues with it.
There is some HW issues nl my TV card...current XP drvs don't work so no FM radio or Tv while I am on Vista. Will now be installing office.... will let you knaow what happens. First thing I did was disable the Use Account Control - a pain!!! it requests verification for everything that runs automatically (when you are logged in with Admin privilages)

See what you mean about Windows Defender installs by it'self,(Incorperated into Vista) no issue anymore with it...
I installed Avast also no Issues at the moment but I do I have Vista in VMware workstation and had issues with Graphics card but once I installed VMware Tools, No more problems...Maybe you should install graphic's card drivers again... Norton Ghost 10 now becomes nil issue as I use it on Windows XP Pro so no more problems at this stage...I'm going to load Office 2007 and see how it goes...Will let you know...
One more issue it keeps looking for Gameport Driver but I've cancelled it as I don't use comp for games...Issue resolved...Vista running 1995 so far...
Yes I've noticed 'Account Control' is a pain...BUT! I reckon we will still have a lot of issues waiting for us...HehHeh...

It picked up my Graphics card (geforce 6200) with no problems and even installed it with extended desktop features as I use 2 monitors. So far so good.. Have just disabled the visual appearances but now Vista looks kuk (like Win 95) but its flying....
I will try to get Beta 3 at our IT dept at work - they have Technet subscriptions and then will let you know - but let me first see if I can get it.
..don't know if its my imagination but the internet seems to be flying.... with IE.

Yes IE does fly, but then it depends also on your system...I also use 2 Monitors 19" and 17"...

Much appreciated Beta 3 should be more intersting especially that a few Bugs/Problems are solved...

Yup, the clocks ticking away...

Waaal I'm sorted and playing nicely...
Took yr tip with the 19 and 17 inch on one system, I had 2 x 17 inches as I thought the 19 & 17 would look weired but then put my 19" that I had on the laptop and the one 17" on the PC and it actually works well. The 17" is a sorta 'flow over' especially when you use a lot of windows. Works nicely.
Disabled, have you had any issues with FF? It tried to install Macromedia and then just froze the system. but that coulda been before I took the Account control thingie off.

I haven't installed it yet I'm using IE Beta3...I will try it though I have it on WinXP...

I have looked at Firefox Pg and it says that it's not compatable with Vista...

IE on Vista is Beta 2 - Beta 3 won't install - says its not made for the operating system. Will have a look at MS to see if there is another one for Vista.
re FF - they will probably update it asap. I'll send them a message.

Apologies, I've got ie Beta 3 installed on WinXP Pro, Yes I've noticed that IE Beta 3 won't install on Vista...

FF will probably only release a version for the Vista final release, otherwise it would mean updating FF everytime a new build of Vista is released.

I still say that if it's only the Vista look that people are after, there's no point in installing the entire Vista Beta with all its bugs. Rather get the Vista Transformation Pack for XP, at least then you have an OS that's fully functional but has the Vista look.

 i need vista 5483 where can i get it ??????

Vista Beta 2 is now closed to the general public...RCI will be released sometime in August and will automatically be informed for those who have registered with Microsoft, i.e. by either a downloaded or purchased version of Vista beta 2...(PS: For those who purchased the DVD, RCI will automatically be delivered to you)...

Received my copy this week - Beta 2 Build 5384. How is this build? Should I make an effort downloading a new 3+gb file just to get the Build 54xx?

I would personally wait for the RC which is due in August(Next month) Not much difference with the exception of a few bug fixes...

Installed 5384 yesterday and am quite satisfied with it. I'm running the 64 bit version on my server and the 32 bit on my main PC.

Soon going to format my server because the 64 bit sucks quite a bit. Overall I'm impressed with vista. It's neat, easy to use and there are quite a few functions that have been simplified nicely in the new build.

I still like playing with the pretty view changer (thumbnails, icons, details). Very sexy. Pointless but sexy.

vista is a load of rubbish

its basically the same as xp just looks nicer

everythinhg has just been moved or renamed

like my computer is now computer

silly things like that

whats really new in OS?
