I have recently installed Windows Vista Ultimate Edition 64-bit, and I have also installed the NVIDIA Forceware 97.46 WHQL drivers.

I've gone from 140FPS in my games with Windows XP Professional to no more than 30FPS with Windows Vista. I know that Windows Vista will use a bit more resources and I might lose around 10FPS, but 110FPS?!

I have heard that this is a common problem since NVIDIA's drivers aren't completely performance-based for Windows Vista yet, as their opting for stability instead of performance (a good idea in theory).

There is a new NVIDIA driver out, the Forceware 100.65 WHQL driver, but I can only download it at the end of the month when we get our next block of cap :D

My question is this: Can anyone confirm that it is indeed the new NVIDIA drivers that is causing the performance deficit? I have gone on many forums and everyone is complaining about it (the drivers' performance) so I would just like to know if anyone else is experiencing the same problems as I am?

Windows Vista doesn't natively support OpenGL, however the NVIDIA graphics drivers add that support.

But I get this drop in performance even when playing pure DirectX9.0c games (Counter-Strike: Source and the like) so I'm not sure why that would cause the drop in performance?

I have had two people download the 100.65 drivers and both of them were corrupted?!

My one friend downloaded it on his ADSL and the other downloaded it through iBurst... So is the file on NVIDIA's servers corrupt?

And how was your FPS in terms of Windows XP, Windows Vista + 100.59 and then Windows Vista 100.65?

My download went fine no corruption. Can't test fps in games since fraps isn't working correctly in vista. 3dmark 06 there's a 99 point difference. Which isn't that bad considering vista isn't even a month out.

I know certain games such as Counter-Strike: Source and Company of Heroes have built-in benchmarks. Does anyone have any benchmarks which we can use to compare Windows XP, Windows Vista + 100.59 and Windows Vista + 100.65?

Right, I have just installed 100.65 drivers (finally got it to download) and my FPS is now back to about 60FPS, which is still nowhere close to Windows XP Professional's framerates but what can I say?

Now, the thing that I am experiencing now is that the framerate stutters or drops every few seconds. It is completely irregular and it doesn't matter which game I run or at which graphics details either. A bug in the drivers perhaps? What do you guys think?

I think the problem might be that you're running the 64bit version of Vista Ultimate and not the 32bit version, that is why you're experience is different to the others.

Could be wrong though

Ja, 64 bit is a lot less stable than 32, if you had 64 bit XP you would know, less to do with Vista than 64bit.

Vista ???

My specs...

Intel Pentium D 3.4GHz 2x2MB Cache (Dual-Core)
Intel945 Chipset Motherboard - SLI Compatable board
1.5GB DDR2 Memory 533MHz Dual Channel (het net 512MB gehad toe ek Ultimate gerun het.)
80GB Seagate Hard Drive - Kry 160GB einde Maart2007
Inno3D Nvidia GeForce 7600GST

Enige raad...

Ultimate as jy dit kan bekostig anders home premium. As jy dsp will koop dan gaan 64 bit.

When will the official Drivers been released, not beta? It's a bit lame of Nvidia don't you think?

100.65 was whql. And it doesn't really matter whether it's beta or not. As long as they keep improving the drivers and releasing them I am happy.
