Windows Vista local only problem on wired and wireless NIC

Anybody encountered this issue before?

Local only access on both Wired and Wireless NICS...

Odd...
 
If it can't ping some or other page it says Local access...what a snore...even my local-only connection gets a little globe (sometimes)
 
This is a biatch of a problem. Net wired nic will connect for little bit then flake out. I disabled all power disablers in VISTA for these devices.

The Wireless NIC connects to the network no problem, but refuses to grant web access. Farking irritating.

I need to fix this. Thinking there may be some DNS or faulty DHCP issue. Done all the updates for relates issues from MS but nothing works... Grrrr.

Do you have another computer nearby to actually test if the internet is on and working?

Not saying you are dumb, but Vista might not be lying.

LOL! yes. Two actually.

And they work fine.
 
Happens on my vista laptop often, only with wireless though. I always figured it was a Telkom/ISP issue though. It does however still access the internet on occasion - very odd...:confused:

How's the wireless set up? Open, WPA2 PSK, AES?

On which channel is it set? Try 1,6 and 11.

My laptop hates to use an Open connection and it despises WEP. I only work on WPA1 or 2 and AES.
 
I got similar problems on Vista on the other pc at home. Sometimes it shows the internet icon and works/ doesn't work, and sometimes it doesn't shot it, but it works. Sometimes on local-only it does show the icon, but usually not.
I have also noticed that when connecting with route sentry it cuts out my international access. The routing tables all shove over to local-only (and editing the routing table doesn't fix the problem).
 
I get this issue all the time, yet I never lose internet access while the little globe vanishes. This is with a Realtek wireless card and Mega 105 router. Using WPA2 and AES encryption.

Also wonder what causes it. I heard someone mention it may be a dns issue, but if so then I wonder what exactly.

In TCP IP V4 settings, add your router IP address, which you use to access it's console as a default gateway. Just go advanced settings, look for gateway option, click add and type it in.

We've got this setup at my flat:

Router connected to ADSL is above in the house.
Network cable running from house to the bottom to my flat (I rent together with a friend). The network cable is connected to another router, which is setup in bridged mode with an IP address of 192.168.1.253 and it's DHCP settings are configured for the router at the top in relay mode. Wireless is setup for me on the .253 router with WPA AES and channel 9.

Router in the house' IP address is 192.168.1.254.

The router in the house can be configured to be connected via pppoe or bridged mode, doesn't matter either way, but it is configured to bridge.

I and my friend have both static IP's (not required, but makes it easier for accessing shares etc.). But our default gateway is set to .254

I can disconnect and connect to any dial up account I want to use and my wireless on Windows 7 never, if ever disconnects and I'm almost always on the net.

I have a similar problem.
I'm running an ad-hoc network between 2 pc's. The gateway has Win XP, the other one's running Vista.
If at any stage I restart the Vista pc, I won't have internet connectivity on it until I restart the gateway pc.
All it will show is "local only"

Wireless networking with Vista is a fsckup.

Worked fine until that box was updated about 3 weeks ago. There is a permanent-ish solution... Format and install XP or windows 7 :D

This is not a wifi issue. It happens on any and all networking connections. I tried wifi to see if it works after the lan connection gave out...

I am at my witts end! Grrrrr!
 
This is something weird people and super difficult to solve it seems or pin down...

Have you checked the Event Viewer? Administrative tools>event viewer..

Check the logs and see if there's anything there.

It could also be your antivirus/firewall software causing the crash and burn, I've seen a few times.

Run a spyware/malware/virus scan as well for safety sake, see if you pick something up.

Reset TCP/IP settings to default (just google for VISTA TCP IP RESET), see if it makes a difference.

If you changed/edited any values for Vista default networking, change it back to defaults.
