Windows Vista Pre-RC1 available

Windows Vista Pre-RC1 is availble here. I think it's limited to 100 000 users

EDIT: Uncertain if this is RC1 or Pre-RC1. There is another link here, so decide for yourself.

Hold it!

1. How big is the ISO? > Possibly more than 3Gb? (DVD) - 24Hour IP reset?
2. What Connection Speed have you got? > I have 384Kb
3. Have you got the CD key needed? > I is unclear from what I have read if a CD Key is provided? Email?

Couldn't get that Akamai D/L Manager to install with Firefox or Internet Explorer.
So it started to d/l without a manager.
I stopped it at 900Mb(been going since this morning) as I realised it would be useless anyway as the IP will be reset (4am tomorrow) before it will get to the more than 3Gb it needs to download and all that expensive bandwidth would be wasted on a pre Release Candidate version of Vista.

Unless you have bandwidth to waste before month end and a 1024Kb connection.
Otherwise see if you can get that Akamai D/L Manager to work. I couldn't.

The ISO is 3.12GB. You can use your own download manager by the way. I'm uncertain if this is a Pre release candindate or a release candidate, there is a different page for the pre (which mentions in the text that it is a pre), but on that page it mentions nothing about a pre (but if you look at the URL it says pre).

The title is a bit misleading as it is actually pre-RC1

download.windowsvista.com/preview/prerc1/en/x64/download.htm

Can you send me a PM with the direct link so I can put it in my D/L Manager.
Tried earlier and it didn't work.

anyong willing to copy the cd & post it since my cap is almost finished (already on second acc). Only if it's allowed (sharing, )

Anyone in SA got it already ?

Hi

Anyone in SA got it already ? Alot of people want to download it...One of the ISP's like saix / IS should actually load it onto their ftp site.... Now with the 4mbps lines we have, it should take like 40mins to download.

More people to reach their cap, more money for them....

The 5600 release is supposed to be much faster and lower on cpu and memory resources.

If anyone has it, please send me a PM, i'll arange for DVD-shipping !!

Ciao :)

I've got it -- and it's the first build which allows an upgrade fron XP instead of only a fresh install. Looks good so far, with a lot more drivers included.

The version that was being linked to is build 5536, RC1 is build 5551. I am trying to organise RC1 atm...

I use WMP beta 2 and thats stable enough, and so are all the other beta's and RC's, so I'm guessing that RC 1 of Vista is okay to use as your only OS?

or should it still only be used with a dual booted XP?

I'd like to try it out, but Id probably just format and only install Vista, would this be okay texo? Any big problems in the OS that would make it unviable for some reason?

ah ok my bad. saw a link somewhere on the net saying that RC1 was build 5551, but could be wrong. so yeah, now how to get RC1 in my hands, 5386 has a tad too many bugs, and debugging code chows way too much RAM.

Dude, the link I posted. they have it at two places.

Unless your problem is the size to download.. im definatley not going to dl it.

Honestly, EHV, I did an upgrade from XP, and have been running it for 12 hours plus, doing a full days work, and have had no probs at all with any of my software. (I'm not a gamer, so wouldn;t know about games.)

All Adobe products (Photoshop, Indesign, Acrobat, Illustrator), Coreldraw X3, Office 2007, Dreamweaver, Firefox etc etc etc are running with no probs at all.

I am seriously impressed! :)

is this RC1 gonna be in any magazine dvds? or available on dvd in durban soon? cos i dont want to have to waste +3gb of my cap for it....

Okay i think ill use it when i format then.. but i cant download 3 gigs.

Anyone in Cae Town got it and willing to copy a DVD for me?
