Fix for slow network speeds with Vista:

Make the changes below to ensure efficient running of Windows Vista on any LAN:

Registry edit: (Please backup original registry before making any changes!)

The Multimedia Class Scheduler needs to be disabled, since as soon as a user makes use of a Media Player when utilising the network / internet, network traffic will be severely impacted.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Audiosrv\DependOnService remove MMCSS from the list; after rebooting the machine, disable the service in the Control Panel under the Services tab.

Further to this Microsoft Windows Vista’s TCP/IP auto-tuning should now also be disabled. (Microsoft TCP/IP stack supports Receive Window Auto-Tuning - it will not function efficiently. The TCP/IP stack monitors the connection and measures the current bandwidth delay for the connection and the application receive rate and adjusts the receive window size to optimum throughput.) Therefore do the following:

Create a shortcut on the desktop “CMD.exe” right click and run as Administrator. Type: "netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled" (without quotes) and press enter.

To enable auto-tuning:
Type: "netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal" (without quotes) and press enter.

To view the current TCP settings:
Type: "netsh interface tcp show global" (without quotes) and press enter.

The only detrimental effect on the system would be an occasional crackling sound when a Media Player is used, to circumvent this set the Player to run in “real time” if required.

I have another daft tip for vista.
If you feel that a program is not performing like it should try running it on one processor.hence the taskmanager affinity settings.

it's all gud but i have one question. How do I get Vista to run some of my old XP software????????????:confused:

Right click properties and change compat mode to xp sp 2 and try running as admin. If that doesn't work the software can't work on vista and you either need a newer version of the software or a different program or go back to xp.

thanks stephan9........just one more prob.......on installation some of the software does not want to run of the installation CD.......Dumb Vista....

You can try just remove the watermark by googling the build of it and replace file leaving the watermark.
Isn't SP2 not RTM yet?
