I just restarted my laptop (running Windows Vista) because of security updates, the system uptime was 34 days, 9 hours and just under 50 minutes. I'm actually quite impressed, considering it's Windows Vista ;)

Doesn't beat my Ubuntu box's uptime record of 104 days, though :D

Is there a log file kept in windows somewhere for this?

Also, no more long periods of uptime will be done for many years now, with power probs and all, i shut down my PC now before eskom does.

Two questions:

1. Does hibernating count, or is the machine on all the time?
2. If yes to question 1, my 2nd question would be, why the hell do you have a laptop? :p

1. The laptop is in standby mode (not hibernation) only during my trips to Pretoria.
2. Because I'm not going to carry my usual computer around to do programming assignments during the day, or view class notes during class :p

Kind of hard to carry a generator to all my classes for the power the computer would need :D

So you leave your notebook on while carrying it around?

Good luck with that, your hdd probably won't last long :p

I leave it in standby mode while carrying it around (the hard drive is turned off) ;)

But once I'm in Pretoria I don't move around that much, I'd probably put it in standby mode for the occasional 5 minutes when I have to go somewhere. :p

No idea...

WKJ?:beanie, You are the pro here - you should know where to find this on the PC without some app :p lol

Windows XP:

Start > Accessories > System Tools > System Information
It's somewhere in there... "System Up Time"

Or just throw this into CMD > Systeminfo|Find "Up Time"

Done

I know where to find the uptime, I just don't know whether a log is kept regarding the computer's total uptime since it was installed (which is what I assumed he was asking) ;)

Unless he meant whether a log showing current uptime is kept, then you can use systeminfo ;) I don't use an app to see my uptime by the way :D

My apologies for misinterpreting his question :p

Yea Yea, You know I was only pulling your leg :p

For those who want some other ways in finding your PC uptime(s)...
In CMD type: net stats srv

If you have the time, and want Past results, head on over to your Event Viewer (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer). Happy calculating! :D
