I have an oldish Fujitsu Lifebook which I'm trying to resurrect (my brother threw it out after it stopped working). Anyway, I'm able to boot parted magic and just installed Mint successfully but for some reason it won't install Windows at all. When trying to install Windows it flashes the windows logo and then just a black screen from there.

Anyone have any idea what could possibly be wrong?

And yes, I'd like it to run Windows as there isn't a working NDI monitor for Linux available.

Is this a fresh install? How many devices connected? Try unplug any unnecessary peripherals, drives etc.

You trying to dual boot? I may be wrong but doesn't windows like to be installed first?
No dual boot. I only tried mint to see if it would work after I couldn't get windows to start. If Mint also gave an issue then it would obviously be some or other hardware failure.

Maybe your Windows installer needs to be MBR/Legacy?

Also check BIOS boot settings, EFI/Legacy, etc.

Installer is MBR (used Rufus). Anything specific I should be looking for in BIOS?

Enable Legacy support, disable Secure Boot, disable anything mentioning RAID support, etc.

Maybe try EFI if it’s supported by the laptop? Using Windows Media Creation tool. Set booting back to UEFI.

Look for something called boot mode to set the legacy or UEFI. Like what capd said, check for legacy support/legacy ROM

Try the windows install media and not Rufus. Worked for me although there was no reason why Rufus should not have worked.
yes, this. Try different media or recreate the boot image.

The fact that its showing the spash screen says that its booting ok. Just might be the image that is borked.

Thanks for all the input so far. I'm currently using Windows media creation tool to make a Win 10 installer.

Here are the current Bios settings

Looks good. If you find the same issue of the Windows logo flashing, leave it for a few minutes and see if it comes right.
Ok cool. Media creation is almost done. I'm going to fire that up and head off to bed in a bit. I figure if I leave it overnight that should give it plenty time to sort out any gremlins.

Use the Mint installer to nuke the drive completely with GParted and see if that makes any difference.

If Media Installer doesn’t do the job that is.
