Windows xp poll please

Ok so a linux noob :D thinks xp slowing is just a placebo effect so i would like a poll please admin to see how many people notice the massive slow down associated with windows xp

I reckon xp slows down big time over time and only a fresh install makes it go faster. I noticed this even before they released vista so this is not a xp vs vista vs 7 thread just a question regarding the slow down of xp.

Anyone else notice/d this?

Windows cannot slow down over time. It slows down because people install stuff and break it. I have a laptop that I only use for work, and its been fine fast for years; other machines that I bugger around with need to be rebuilt monthly.

Look at the situation from a purely technical point of view and you will see that time is not a factor (in the sense that if you install 2 years worth of crap in a day, it will have the same effect as installing it over two years).

But......
Also, all Windows OS's slow down over time. Registries become clogged with entries (and other clogging occurs) and only a reinstall can fix that. Otherwise formatting to EXT3 and installing Linux also fixes the problem very quickly.

How exactly does a registry get clogged???
 
Yeah it slows down... after you load an AV, Firewall, Anti-Spyware, Anti-Phishing, Mail Scanner etc etc etc .... Then its dog slow, but thats the price you pay to be "secure".
 
Could be hey IRG since i moved to 64 bit windows i do not use any of that stuff, i run a scan once a month and then uninstall nod32.

seems like 64 bit windows has no virus's, i got plenty under xp 32 bit and none under xp 64 bit.
 
I just installed a 7200 RPM WD Scorpio 2.5'' hard disk in my laptop and removed the 5400 RPM Seagate Momentus. Vista is running like a demon possessed now. Holy crap!

Now I'm even starting to like Windows Vista Business. :)

*I'm running TuneUp Utilities 2009 on my laptop, so my OS never ''slows down''.

Ah no guys.....XP slowing down?Stop installing crap and messing where you are not supposed to and it will work.I think it's because people are trying to install SP6.00785...hehehe
