Windows XP read-only problem

I have trouble with my installation of XP (work) SP2.
For some reason after a techie re-imaged it,
-I cannot unlock the task bar
-Certain folders are read only (like FF plugins - making it impossible to install flash for e.g.,)
-I cannot change view options in Windows Explorer

All these things appear locked in the registry and cannot be unlocked.

I have admin rights on the machine and it doesn't appear related to a user account. I tried various googled fixes including a microsoft fix and nothing has worked thus far. I installed unlocker and that doesn't help. To top it off I cannot unistall FF because the folders are read-only.

Any of you have a fix for me?

Mmmmm, do you have limited access or administrator access?

Try upgrading to Service Pack 3 and see what happens, but this obviusly in conjunction with admin access is important.

I have full admin rights, as said above even with the techie logged in as admin there's still a problem.
Co. policy is such that SP3 isn't an option.

It might be a problem with policies on the AD.
Imaged machines in general give a lot of problems. It might even be a faulty image.

Ask the techie nicely to manually install XP. A lot of work, but the only way to exclude the image as a problem.

Images never work 100%, you will always come across a hassle...

Clean XP install seems to be the only fix in your situation. Unfortunately....

Perhaps change the security permissions on C:
right click on c:, under the security tab (disable simple file sharing under folder options if you don't have this tab) click on advanced. Select your username (add it if not listed), edit / change permissions. Give yourself full control, and apply it to 'This folder, subfolders and files'. Tick the "Replace permission entries on all child..." box.

Should take a while to process, and could break something, but quicker than a reinstall...
