Windows XP SP2 doesn't detect my printer

XP SP2 is full of bugs and its bloatware. Install Vista. :)

My printer had a similar problem during the install, the detection always seems to have problems. I think a reset or cable switch also did the trick as with Killa.
I agree 100% with Ekhaatvensters.
Xp with SP2 has been a nightmare since release.
So many people 'upgrade' to SP2 then anything to do with network detection sucks also their PC slows down by as much as 30% and later they go out and buy faster PC's and put Xp SP2 straight back on again !
Either use Vista although that sucks too, or Install Xp SP1 and go get the SP3 Beta and install that as it a 100% better.
SP1 only has one problem in that it struggles to see some USB sticks and of course if you are an IE7 fan you're in trouble but that sucks also, hence IE8.

I have also bought the same Lexmark 4 in 1 printer and connected it to my laptop: Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Notebook-1,6 GHz Core Duo Processor, 120 GB HDD. When I ran the installation program it had the nerve to tell me my processor is 400MHz and hence does no meet minimum requirement of 800MHz. Needless to say I am livid @ Lexmark. To make matters worse it also does not recognise the printer (which I'm using a USB connection for) and lists it as an unrecognised device.:mad::mad: Does anybody have a solution?

Hey all,

Just formatted my pc and everything is back on track, except my Lexmark X7350 that doesn't want to connect to the PC.

When I do a manual installation, it stops at the screen where it tells me to switch on the printer, but it doesn't go further. The box is grey, hence it still doesn't detect my printer.

1) The USB cable is 100%
2) The USB port is 100%
3) The other functions on the printer works 100%.

What can the problem be?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I've had numerous problems with USB on previous occasions at users. Try a parallel printer cable.
It should work then.

IMO there are only three reasons why the printer wouldn't work;

1. The printer or cable is faulty.
2. The USB port is faulty.
3. The driver is corrupt or conflicting.

My bet would be number 3. 9 out of 10 times with a USB printer the driver code is written in GDi format. Due to this, you have one decent shot of getting the driver to install 100% first time. If you mess up, it'll never be the same. More conflicts arise when you swop the port. So try and use the same USB port per device.
