Thinking about it, if it was my company I would not actively promote/market Mi-Fi products that can connect several users to a single SIM.
I would prefer each user to have their own contract/SIM - more revenue! :twisted:
any means to get the usage breakdown on different device classes - particularly keen to know if MiFi devices make up a non-negligible means of data acquisition because of the multiple user feature
also interesting is that in the medium term they should be masking the number of tablets and smartphones using the network as soon as the count of mifi devices moves from being negligible

And if I'm connecting via a mifi type modem? Right now I've got three laptops, a tablet, and a phone connected to one - what does that register as?
Funnily enough not for much longer, at least for those ad agencies that sniff MAC addresses in order to target ads. Starting from iOS 8 MAC addresses will be scrambled until you choose to join a network.
Never knew that, of course I knew about spoofing a mac address but scrambling one. Also know about duplicating imei numbers China does it a lot.
MiFis are a great way to present GSM as a DSL replacement
If I was the MNOs I would be aggressively driving a multi-SIM with SIM allocation systems approach
1 contract multiple SIMs pay extra to share an allocation and allocate on a device type basis for the SIM

Maybe as a start-up company in opposition to the incumbent MNOs and offering small volumes of data, but to move more data I would rather have more contracts per household!
That's why the hotspot feature in some mobile phones is disabled by default.

my reason for single contract multiple SIM with allocation on SIM (as opposed to sharing the allocation) is simply to keep the billing mechanisms more direct and to introduce device lease to own mechanisms into the mix rather than term contracts - I honestly see the 24 month contract as on its way out - one converged bill, multiple access "lines" (SIM, copper line, Sat Access Card, etc ...) each device connected to an access mechanism and an allocation structure on the access point or device.
