Wired for wealth

Korea is piloting and deploying connections at 1000Mbit/s
 A few of those could probably take down the entire SA/SAT3 with DoS attacks.

Just shows how much damage the Gov's is doing with their archaic policies/incompetence. (e.g. 50%+ African ownership of cables:rolleyes:)

screw 100mbps i want that 1000mbps , santa where are you(read my signature)

If I were part of the new black elite I would also push for these 50% ownership rules:). Remember these guys all have offshore accounts where they stash their BEE profits. A friend of mine saw Patrice on his yacht in the Med the other day :)

Very interesting article, i never really though about the potential for local content to foster a better and faster internet experience for locals. There will always we more potential in terms of speed when using local. Frankly i think a major push should be put in place by guvanmont to get hosting cheaper in this country.

If for instance using the new cables it might only be finacially viable to offer us 15meg uncapped or whatever, then i would like a faster local experience.

Would it be nice if local was 100meg or whatever and international was at the limit of what is viable.

If local hosting pricing to locals could match this increased speed, i think locals would naturally host their own content and we would be laughing from afar at americans with our local hd youtube clone.

It may seem limiting, but in fact it just lifting the ceiling which our international pipes will always have.

Sure u may be happy with 15meg uncapped international, but im sure u would be more happy with 100 meg connnection with 15 meg international limit.

Eventually a large portion of our international pipes would be to supply the world with our gloroius websites.

the thing will local content is that korea has one standard language - korean. we have eleven. imagine pushing local content - the gov would require everything to be in all the languages. laughable. though im sure the aqfrikaans only places are actually quite advanced - i might be wrong, coz i dont speak the language, but those boers are organised mofo's and they would rule the net in Safrica.

Trapeace

There is a South Korean company called Trapeace, who are trying to keep quiet about their activities in SA.

They operate speed cameras on national roads in Durban and on the N1 in Cape Town and a large chunk of what you pay, when you get caught in gets taken out of the country by them.

So I guess they are more advanced than us if they can pull this off in South Africa in spite of BEE existing. Its surprising these types haven't been targeted by Xenophobia yet.
