Wireless affect latency on CSS???

My pings are around 30 - 40 during online play on CSS, but i still get quite a bit of lag :mad: Could this be 'cause im i'm running my broadband off a wireless router?? Any1 has sum advise???
 
Yes. Never play FPS with wireless it just does not work. pulg you pc right into the router with a cable and make the other PCs run off the wireless.
 
Well thats a bit of a problem... gonna hav 2 start digging a trench across the road and maybe run sum fibre ... basically i'm f'd.. maybe i'll try n strengthen the signal, hope that'll help..:rolleyes:
 
it all depends on your Wireless connection to the Router , if the signal quality and strength is 70-100% then u won't have lagg or ping spikes. If your network has ping spikes or huge lagg then it might be something like electrical interference, or maybe a obstacle of sort (If u run across a big distance maybe a tree or something in the way, if its inside a home it could maybe be electrical wireing or even something like a microwave)
 
ok so now i'm pretty much ticked off.. puchased 2 x 7dbi antennae, 1 for access point and 1 for pc... signal strength only improved by 10% !!! :mad: I'm currently running off a 4meg line, but i'm thinking of getting my own 384k line installed, telkom offers a 384k line @ R 152 / month, no isp. Any1 can advise if i shud see an increase in latency during online gaming with the 384 instead of the 4meg ???
 
You should be able to play CSS just fine with 384Kbps line with acceptable latency. I'm assuming you're currently using a SAIX dsl account? If so, have your line checked out. The added latency using wireless lan is minimal, it shouldnt really effect your gaming unless there is a device causing interference.

Definitely running off SAIX. If a 384k line does not increase my latency then that's my only option..

No, it doesn't.

Wireless doesn't have to give you lag, but a bad connection can.. try pinging your router's IP to see if there are any real problems with spikes or just high latency.
 
My reply from the router ranges bet 1 - 4ms, with majority of the packets coming back @ 2ms. This is not ideal, as 1 would expect nothing more than 1ms for online gaming.
 
Actually, there are 2 x fairly huge trees in line of sight bet. wireless nic and router, i'm on my way to the store to buy a chainsaw...

Well 2ms isn't much, but it does mean that the connection is bad and it probably spikes itself or drops occasionally, mine is similar.
 
FFS i'm getting spikes up 2 1000ms from the return packets off the router!!! WTF cud be causing this? If some1 can confirm it's the trees then I;m dead serious about the chainsaw....
 
Are you using Vista by any chance, or maybe it applies to XP too, but you get 1000ms+ pings once every 60 seconds almost exactly with some set ups, it's caused by Windows searching for new networks or something.

That would probably be your lag right there though :/
 
Turn it off and on again, ping the routers IP. If that doesnt help, reset it and reconfigure. USB, PCMCIA, PCI, or onboard wireless network card? Which version of Window are you using?
 
Running XP, why would doze search for new networks? I'm running dhcp, but i doubt that would 'look' for new networks every now and then. Hold on... just proved that theory wrong... ran a ping from a desktop pc connected to the ap and no spikes. Mayb the spikes only apply to wireless? Mmm this all still point to the trees.... cough* where's my chainsaw...
