I bought a new Linksys WRT 160N router the other day, plugged it in, set the channel/security and went to connect to it via my laptop and desktop.

Firstly the desktop - clicked connect, entered network key and all worked. Hoppe to the laptop, clicked connect, entered the key and it connected - but disconnected seconds later - then reconnected - and it loops like this continually. It does this for hours.

To test, I turned off all security and then it worked. It seems with any security (WEP, WPA2 etc) it loops in conect/disconnect.

I've never seen this issue - any of you guys seen this issue at all?

Yes I did, it is when you enter the key in incorrectly or not at all.

I don't know why it does this, but as soon as I re enter the code and "add the modem/rooter" it works perfectly.

Just check your WEP/WPA key again. ;)

Agree, the incorrect key will make it look like its connected and then fail....

You can also try deleting it from your networks and adding it manually, then enter the correct settings. It definitely has something to do with incorrect Password/Passphrase.

Erk. Pretty damn sure I entered correctly at least in one of my attempts ;)

I'll check it out when I get home though.

Thanks

A likely possibility is that you did not use the exact keys it wanted. There is a hex/ascii radio button that you have to use. Otherwise it definitely won't work. Some routers do not have this option and then it isn't a problem.
