Wireless Flat/Complex

Hi.
This my first post and I couldn't find any others like it so be gentle.
Me and a couple of guys life in and 8 story apartment complex. is there any way we can wirelessly connect to each other. My mega 100wr barley covers my flat.. i don't mind buying a new AP but have no idea what to buy and to get one that can go through like 5 stories of concrete... please help if u can

You might go through one or two floors with your AP, but the only way you'd get further is using the outside of the building or connecting everyone to a router adjacent to the building. Everyone connecting would obviously have to be able to see the router.

Wireless is very much a Line of Sight technology so it wouldn't be practical to try and go through 8 floors, you'd have to amp your connection ALOT (which is costly, illegal, and might just fry your neighbour below's brain )

First things first: see how far you can GET with your mega 100's wireless... It's not the best, but I've had adequate results from 50m away through a few walls. You might look at re-positioning the router to a more central location (if possible) or invest in a wireless repeater or 2 (if the distances are really too much).

Fair enough, but that's why I suggested seeing what the range through the floor is

We've tried it plenty of times, and it never works well, even in a double story house where I presume the re-inforcement would be less than in an apartment building. I'd be surprised if you go more than one floor.

Yeah easiest in complexes are to either put nice say 10dbi > antennas up on the outside of adjacent windows or to run a cable if they are in the same building...

Drove past a flat the other day where guys living about 3 floors apart had small looked like 8dbi patch antennas sticking out of the windows pointing at each other...

thanks will have to look into that, cables are a bit difficult as the building has a very wierd design and only people directly above or below me could connect.
