Wireless Mesh Systems

Just 3 runs off a normal spool of cat 5e cable from my main router to the the end points. I catered for it so have channels in the wall.

Did you mount them vertically against a wall? I haven't tried but I found their range weak when placed horisontally.
you will almost always find vertical mounting WiFi APs give you a degraded performance the way the radiation pattern design on the units are designed to sit on a counter or hang even when designed for vertical mounting its a push with the size available for the antenna.

You always want the correct orientation as high as possible away from hard surfaces, there a reason enterprise APs are mostly ceilings mounted

I now have, to experiment with, TP-Link:

S7 3-pack
M4 2-pack
E4 2-pack.

Thinking of using the S7 inside, and 1x the M4/E4 in the cottage, with Ethernet backhaul.

As far as I know, the WiFi capabilities of M4 and E4 are the same, with the only difference being Gigabit LAN ports vs 100Mbps.

Of course, the nice thing about Decos is that they all play nicely together. However, if I recall, adding an M/E4 to an S7 will reduce some functionality.

Other than that, I'm still happy with my Vilos. I just think the TP-Links will be able to deliver greater WiFi speed (240Mbps line).

Yes, run ethernet on the S7/M4. And wifi on the E4 to get the most out of it.

What functionality will be reduced by mixing?

I remember reading it somewhere. The Deco software differs (sometimes greatly) between M/E4, S4, S7, M5, etc. So when mixing a higher-end version with lower, the software is reduced too.

I have not fiddled with any of their AX models as yet.

So 1 month and a bit review:

Not impress with the H70x.

Frequent disconnects and cannot connect with the two periphipal units.

TV, connected via lan cable to unit 2, frequently does not identify there is a network connected. Manually have to switch to wifi for tv to connect to internet. I changed cables, but problem persists.

Unit 3, my daughters room, does not allow connection. Move device to main unit, connects easily.

Should have went Deco. Tried and tested. You okes don't listen... :p

Just helped a neighbour setup a deco X10 for his house. 3 units

Removed some extenders they had

To make it simple, just reused the same SSID and password as their ISP router so their devices and inverter didn't need setting up again.

Have to say, it was a simple easy setup. And you could see the devices connecting to the various units, etc. just need to disable the WiFi on the ISP router provided by Vox .told him to contact them to disable it.

Was my first experience with deco. Would recommend I guess. A local IT company had quoted them 10k to install 2 APs with labour , etc.

@rh1 You managed to sort your struggles out? From what I've read these things are solid devices and are aftgerall owned by tp link. Maybe you have a Monday babbalas box ?

I see there is a local support phone number; you tried them?

With the tv, I realise it puts the lan port to sleep and you have to wait a minute or more after switching the tv on before it picks up the tv and then connect, weird but I could not find a setting to keep the port on all the time.

The random disconnects is still a problem, this morning my wife phone's could not connect, we restarted her phone a few times and then while trying to connect it just connected, no rhyme or reason why it disconnects the phone/devices (wifi connected) and that is the frustrating part.

Was a bit busy the last few weeks, so low on my priority list.

I moved to TP-Link Deco S7. Flawless!

Why are you keeping the ISP router if I may know ? My mesh routers (asus) connect straight to my CPE.

For others doing this consider using the Deco as the router as may ISPs supplies cruddy routers with 100Mbps ethernet. Also turn off the router WiFi for less interference

Yeah, I told him to call Vox to turn off the WiFi on their router. My own experience a few years ago was I needed to sign a letter to get into their box etc and I was not going to wait hours to go through that. Never thought that the deco could take the place of his router. Hmm..

Anyway, dropped him a message since I am on the top part of the planet, and he is happy as Larry. WiFi working everywhere. He never called Vox. He is not technically minded. I am gonna let sleeping dogs lie
