Hi dudes and dudettes ;)

I'm using a Billion 5102G, I've set the access point name, encryption is WPA-PSK and I've disabled MAC filtering and it's broadcasting SSID.

I'm trying to connect to the router with a laptop using Vista Home Premium.

Sure, I could use the Ethernet Cable, but it would be nice to feel like bwana for a change and sit on my loaf and do some surfing on a couch ;) :D :p

Anyways, the laptop connects to the network, but Windows says "Unidentified Network" when connecting Wirelessly and there is no internet connection.

What am I missing?

Does your laptop's wireless support using WPA? I know a lot of the older hardware don't support WPA, but hey if you're using Vista I guess you don't have older hardware...

It's a new Toshiba laptop made for Vista, or Vista ready, so it should support it I guess. Should I try WEP ?

I struggled with WPA last time too. Read some M$ KB articles and it said something about having to flash the wireless hardware on the laptop. Thats when I gave up and switched to WEP.

I tried WEP and even flashed the router with firmware from Billion.com. It was lol funny actually, I typed 10.0.0.2 and almost freaked when I couldn't access the router :p An old ipconfig showed me the new adress and I must say the firmware syncs and connects much faster than the S.A. version.

Does anybody else have an idea?

I read somewhere that it's either DHCP which is the problem, but I think that should be okay, or it is the channel which the WLAN and router uses, it has to be the same, but I don't know where to find this on the WNIC ;)

Havning the same problem, anybody with some suggestions?

Has anyone managed to figure this out? My modem died and I got a Mecer one, but I am having the same problem with my laptop. Strangely, my wife's computer on XP is connecting to the wireless network fine. Just my Vista laptop is getting the Unidentified network problem. It's driving me mad.

Try and manually add a wireless network and dont try and automatically detect it ..

In WinXP it will be under Preferred Wireless Networks. Not sure about vista as its a useless memory /cpu hogging thief

First disable all security and see if you can connect. Thereafter enable security like Firewalls, WEP, etc.

Had endless problems with WPA, eventually gave up and went back to WEP.

I finally got mine up and running. I changed from WEP to WPA-PSK, i also configured all the network setting manually, IP address, DNS, etc etc. Just fiddling about, and eventually it worked.

As mentioned above disable all security, and then establish a connection first, and then put the security settings back up.

WEP really means nothing these days. There are several vids/sites online of people cracking WEP passwords in a matter of minutes. It's really regarded as a soft security measure.
WPA is really the way to go so you might want to re-investigate your problem.
