Wireless taking on Diginet

Unfortunately there is no pricing on their website... at least I could not find it...
Would help to see what their pricing is like.

These type of services make for an interesting proposition when it comes to community based internet services. Any individual with basic to intermediate networking skills can easily pull together a 2MB service @ R7400 p/m and either resell that or monetize it many different ways...

Whether you selling wireless internet to your entire college dorm or just to everyone in your Town House complex, or even having your own hosting company with a server under the desk :P...

WRT ICASA & Legalities I am not sure about VANS licensing and such, but we practically live in a banana republic. The law chooses where justice lands... in other words moving forward there is going to be so much broadband/internet competition going forward I personally dont think ICASA or any other judicial body will be able to catch you. They can't even operate their own organisations, I highly doubt they'll be too much trouble to deal with. <- This is very sad and should not be the case, but it is reality so we might as well use it our advantage.

They are part of WBS? That's iBurst isn't it? Yet another monopoly? I don't think their prices will be competitive...

7200/m ? no thanks my companies laser link works good enough.

WBS at it again... after seeing how they're treating their residential cusomers, I won't be touching them with a barge pole.

@ schurtek - Yup, it's iBurps... and they are one of the most expensive ISP's... there was a time when they was one of the cheapest, but that was a long time ago...

The article sounds very optimistic, taking on is perhaps a touch strong, Telkom has 22,500 diginet customers vs Broadlink's 200 wireless customers... 0.8% of the market is a good start though, shouldn't we wait till it reaches say 5% or 10% before claiming it's "taking on" something?.. :)

If there's no Internet, then what is the point of having this if you can't even send and receive emails from overseas?

If you have multiple sites that need to be networked... point to point networking such as diginet is how you do it.

Diginet in itself is not an internet solution. You need Diginet that is connected to an internet provider.

If you got one of these wireless solutions hooked up to an ISP on the other end, then you would have internet...

Ah - but you're including all Diginets from 64k... Note that Broadlink's service starts at 512k, and I'll bet most of their clients are 2Mbps and above - so that 200 probably already accounts for more like 5% or more of the market share of that capacity...

And as market related pricing goes, R 7400 for 2Mbps is pretty good value when compared to Telkom services of the same size, or Neotel fibre with the high setup costs...
