Witchfest 2015

It was an epic metal festival to remember. Thanks to Witchdoctor Productions for getting all those bands who put on such a fantastic show.

My favourite bands were Septicflesh, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Belphegor, and Cannibal Corpse.

The crowd was amazing, really showing that metal in SA is still very much alive and well.

I also got to see Wildernessking for the first time - it was only the 2nd time they've played in JHB - what an epic band, hope they play up this side more often.

Oh and got to see Insek again for the first time in forever - also an epic, epic band :D

Apparently the drummer from FA stripped his moer after the show because of bad sound or something :P

Well their sound check did take a long while.

I heard that they plugged in a completely separate soundboard just for them.

I'm sure there was a lot of s**t that went down behind the covers.

But I was really impressed with the sound quality / production of the international bands - they're just on another level compared to our local guys.

I know Christo from Insek was also pissed off because the band before them took too long so Insek's set had to be cut short.

I must say I think it would've been nicer to give all the bands a bit longer to play.

I chatted to Christo at length after the show - he was mad pissed that Insek's set got cut short due to the previous band playing Rodriguez covers. Also told me that backstage had separate areas for the local and international bands....

Yeah that's not cool...

I reckon the festival had it's issues but on the whole, as far as I could see anyway, it all went pretty smoothly.

I was super impressed with how quickly the changes between bands happened - those sound guys must have been stuffed after this weekend.

Damn I really wanna see Septicflesh and Fleshgod again =(

Something that has been mentioned on FB quite a bit since yesterday is how awesome the crowd was in general.

Was such a chilled group of people - just there to enjoy the music and not to cause trouble.

Even in the violence of some of those mosh pits if someone hit the ground they were almost immediately helped up and rejoined the chaos.

So; when the 2016 tickets go on sale I suspect they will be sold out, fast - looks likely that there will only be 1200 in total.

I'm going to bite the bullet and get for me and the GF the day they are on sale.

I heard differently... As far as I know he didn't strip his moer because of sound, he was upset that their set was cut short. Almost all the bands throughout the festival had "cut" sets... FA were just REALLY REALLY excited to play South Africa again, and when their set got cut, they were just really bummed they weren't able to put on the entire show they had planned for us...

A shorter FA set suited me just fine :P

Not too sure what people see in them but I'm really not a fan.

I think they're a great band - thought their last gig here was awesome. Also, I'm a drummer, so Francesco Paoli \m/

Look they were entertaining enough to watch live - but their brand of symphonic death metal really doesn't appeal to me.

I think SepticFlesh do a much better job.

But each to his own - the world would be an exceptionally boring place if we all liked the same thing.

I see WD are opening up pre-registration for 2016 witchfest tickets on Sunday.

Yup gotta admire them, they love SA and seem to have a good connection with people they've played with here before, local bands etc. Love me some FA, Paoli absolutely slays

Fair point.

Doubt I'll be here for the next WitchFest, but will take a peek anyway - can't miss out again if I'm still here!

I'm hoping that the line-up is finalised before the tickets go on sale.
