Wits students protest over tuition fee increase

Some dude is blaming the ANC.

Some other dude says they must learn from Gaza.

Some other dude says some high schools will strike too.

What should we learn from Gaza? (I hope he doesn't mean terrorist bombing or something like that)
And what does this have to do with high schools, everyone is just jumping onto the band-wagon.

So, is Wits just going to stay closed until things calm down? It's not clear to me exactly what the protesters want. Their "demands" are simply not realistically achievable. At some stage, reality will catch up with them. There is a bigger world outside Wits. Exams will be delayed but the rest of the world will move on and there will be nothing that these protesting students will be able to do about it. Companies won't extend their application deadlines just because Wits students haven't finished their exams yet, professional societies won't accommodate students who did badly in their exams due to the protest action. The whole world isn't going to shut down in solidarity with these students.

Wits is closed till the 26th and you might not be familiar with #ProtestnPass but yes it exists and people ARE studying.

Then why are they interfering with other people studying? Why can they study and other people who try to study are interfered with? #studymustfall

These students are going to k@k themselves when they land in the real business world.

They always are going to get kaked whether they protest or not. The system that's been put in place by the white men 200 years ago is still here. We are going to get it fully decolonized no matter what.

It's easy, just stop studying and working. That will decolonize everything nicely. You don't even have to protest. Just go home and do nothing.

I'm likely quite ignorant on the subject and granted I did my degree overseas, so I'm still confused as to what you mean by colonized and a white man system. What is the problem exactly, apart from the high fees? The study material?

WHAT, does this even mean?

Oh **** off

Get your government to build universities with your own subjects and syllabus. No more nasty statues. No more "white monopoly capital". No more white man. Decolonised. Mission accomplished.

But that doesn't involve dragging everyone down to your pea-brained level so I'm guessing this is not what you had in mind, is it?

I think they are confusing 'decolonise' with 'destabilise'. The ultimate end goal seems to be as it always has been, loot, burn and destroy. This is just another convenient excuse. I'm all for free education, but this is going to achieve nothing. Seems we have a bunch of kids who missed the 'struggle' but want to be 'heroes', so they grasp onto anything they can and call it 'revolution'. Even see people saying things like 'such a powerful photo' etc... when its just a ****ty random selfie of someone taking a selfie etc... let em **** it up, when there is nothing left and a loaf of bread is a few thousand, maybe they'll think back to how they actually ****ed up their futures, but I doubt it. Majority here will still vote ANC.
