Wits students protest over tuition fee increase

Once again he talked a lot and said very little. Time to transition from #feesmustfall to #zumamustfall. I'm done with this guy.

These fools are singing and celebrating in the background.

A 0% increase isnt a victory.

I guess it will help keep unsavoury elements out of the universities like UCT.

But no answers on them.

Strange that nothing was said about outsourcing. I wonder how many students know that there is a possibility that they themselves may end up in an outsourcing model one day.

Let's see, what is the demands,

- Institutional autonomy

Old and big topic in SA, http://www.che.ac.za/media_and_publ...tutional-autonomy-and-corporatised-university

- Racism

Many underlying issues here, Maties went with the Maties 101 route... all races are guilty in this regard.

- Free education

Free, but don't expect it tomorrow.

- Student housing

Free, and this may border on a dangerous situation when it comes to occupancy. Alternative and cheaper accommodation should be on the table, I won’t be surprised to see more and more tenders going out to build student communities. In Stellenbosch, most community real-estate is purpose build to cater the student market, but it is commercial.

Does anyone know what "black debt" means?

Something about the life of a black child not being valued. They live in poverty, have parents earning below minimum wage and struggle to repay debt. So the struggle of poverty continues. That is what I understand from the interviews on ENCA

Now they want to continue the "fight" for free education. Wonder if the protests will continue next week
