Hi,

I'm thinking of borrowing money from Wonga, less than 1k. I have tried my family, etc. I wanna apply and see if I'll be approved for now, but I just want to know if they give you a final opportunity to cancel before they transfer the funds to you?

Thanks

Go to other options first, Wonga gonna kill you with interest, shop around a little bit more!

Just don't. If you don't have R1000, what makes you think you're going to have the R2000 you gonna need to repay them in a few months time? Crazy.

More personal misery is caused by micro-loaners than any other institutions in South Africa (including Telkom)

+1. I really do believe the only things you should EVER borrow money for are to buy a house, to bail yourself out of jail and a car (although even the car is debatable). Anything else can wait.

I will, I have a permanent job. Wonga is 30 days max, and I can afford that comfortably in my next salary. I wouldn't consider it if I knew I couldn't pay it back - I'm not crazy, but thanks anyway.
I just started a new job and need to move as it's far from where I currently reside. Don't want to risk my job by being late, and to those who will tell me to leave home early, I already do!

Thanks, I'll try Capitec or Capfin if I decide to go ahead with it.

When I read the thread title, I thought Wonga was drugs. What's that stuff called again? Wunga?

That's Whoonga. The guys who launched Wonga.com in the US are South Africans - one has dual Israeli citizenship. Apparently, Wonga means money in slang, SA slang I'm guessing.

But if you can afford to pay back R1500 or R2000 in 30 days time, why do you have to borrow R1000 now?

Maybe he needs it to go towards deposit or something, see he is moving, and maybe savings are not enough

Though I would rather speak to the bank for an overdraft or some such than go near money sharks.

Agree on steering clear of money sharks but overdrafts imply OP already has a cheque account and with higher banking fees and overdraft costs, I don't recommend going that route.
