Woolmer: Arrest made, say reports

An arrest has been made in the Bob Woolmer murder investigation, Pakistani television station Geo TV claims.

Speaking to New Delhi Television, Hamid Mir, chief of Geo TV, said the person was not a Jamaican national and that police had confiscated his telephone.

Jamaica police launched a murder inquiry after a post mortem revealed that the Pakistan cricket coach was strangled.

A police statement said: "The pathologist report is now available and states that Mr Woolmer's death was due to asphyxia as a result of manual strangulation.".......................................................................

Earlier, members of the Pakistan team gave fingerprints and statements to police before being allowed to leave for Montego Bay.

Although Pakistan’s Geo TV has made a startling disclosure about a suspect being already arrested by the Jamaican police in connection with coach Bob Woolmer’s murder, his nationality is yet to be revealed.

However, reports from Jamaica suggest that the person arrested is not a Jamaican, although he has been in touch with Pakistan, Sri Lankan and Indian players too.

He is also known to have been a frequent visitor of Bob Woolmer

Arrest Claims Denied

There have been no arrests in the investigation into the murder of Bob Woolmer, the police officer leading the case has insisted.

Reports from New Delhi Television suggested a non-Jamaican national was being held and that police had confiscated his telephone.

But the island's deputy commissioner Mark Shields has refuted this, saying: "I don't know where that's come from. That's nonsense, as far as I'm concerned. There's actually no truth in that.

"I can unequivocally dismiss that, unless someone's given themselves up in India and we don't know about it, but I think that's highly unlikely."
