Checkers had pies at R12.99 per 100g. Can you fkn believe that kak.Checkers is doing the same sort of thing.
I think there's just R45 or something.
I have never bothered to buy the overpriced pie.
I have tried overpriced pies in the past and was always disappointed.
It expired a year ago though?View attachment 1885855
KuGompo pie or nothing
But honestly who still buys pies. Can get a decent wrap or submarine roll now days for less than a pie.
taking advantage of people wanting quality,
meanwhile the "standard" pies are the exact same thing, maybe a bit smaller to take advantage of the plebs.
It's a old picture, once a year when I see family they bring me shamrock piesIt expired a year ago though?
It's like a Gompo thing us ex Gomponites do just for the feel of the old days. Shamrock pies ,Windmill and Freesland icecreamsIt's a old picture, once a year when I see family they bring me shamrock pies
I am asking that as well as why those WW pies are R70.Na. The two pies are not the same. Woolworths regular pies are already pretty good, but they are a lot more flakey, and have a lot less meat in the filling compared to the farm style pies. The fsrmstyle pies are on par with Houwhoek or similar farm stall pies. Basically solid meat filling.
They are also made with Woolworths signature butter puff pastry, not the cheaper seed oil/margerine based pastry. The taste cannot be compared.
I am a pretty good home cook, and make a mean pie. But I have worked out the cost, and a similar quality homemade pie already costs me about R40.00 in ingredients alone. That is before adding in overhead. Expecting Woolworths to sell you that sort of pie, freshly baked and warm, with the convenience of getting it at a premium retail location, while you are doing your daily groceries, for anything less than R65.00, would simply mean they are selling it at a loss.
Instead of being offended by what WW charge for a premium pie (while their really good “regular” pies still cost R36.99), you should rather be asking why a Engen garage pie made from “meat” of unknown origin, and the cheapest, flakiest pastry, and not freshly baked, but rather just reheated on site, at R45-R50?
I thought it was pretty clear. If it would cost you upwards of R40.00 in ingredients alone to make a pie like that at home, how much do you think Woolworths, or anyone else for that matter should be charging once all the overheads have been added?I am asking that as well as why those WW pies are R70.
Not for a single pie's ingredients LMAO.I thought it was pretty clear. If it would cost you upwards of R40.00 in ingredients alone to make a pie like that at home, how much do you think Woolworths, or anyone else for that matter should be charging once all the overheads have been added?
"bigger" != "better"*ou can get a much bigger pie for not much more
Looking at obesity, I don't think anyone is taking your advise. If people don't like the cost, just don't buy it?
Lol I would say there is very little convenience food, not out to kill you. Honestly I don't do fast food, over priced shrinking portions and cut corners for lower quality. Only time I do fast food is when I do my monthly shopping, then I usually get a pie at my last stop which is usually spar, after all the unpacking and stuff, last thing I want to do is cook.Yup indeed both not good
economies of scale, if they made enough of them, and got the process down to an art form,Na. The two pies are not the same. And pigs are serenaded with divine music by top notch musicians. All this adds to the cost. And CEO's need bread and butter via 200 mil bonus, needless to add.People need to understand that the meat used in these 'farm-style' pies come from animals that were grass-fed in the Drakensberg highlands and were also drinking the finest spring water in the land.
this, quality has fallen over a cliff, Spur, wimpy and everything else is tasteless trash,I haven't seen the inside of a place like wimpy, steers, spur in well over a decade, just not the same quality like the 90's.
Go and try make a similar pie at home and accurately track your input costs. Come back and talk again. Not for a single pie's ingredients LMAO.
Surely, you can't be making ONE pie when you cook at home ? If you make 6, it should work out to be at least half the price of Woolies pie.I am a pretty good home cook, and make a mean pie. But I have worked out the cost, and a similar quality homemade pie already costs me about R40.00 in ingredients alone.
You are a cheapskate, you will never buy that Farmstyle pie, so how do you know its the same thing?taking advantage of people wanting quality,
meanwhile the "standard" pies are the exact same thing, maybe a bit smaller to take advantage of the plebs.
Have you even eaten those? You can get a much bigger pie for not much more.
