My long suffering notebook has finally started its death march so I need to replace it. Anyone had any experience with Wootbook?

I've heard they are decent bit haven't seen one myself. If it was in the market I would take the chance as wootware is very good with support.

I don't like the way they advertise the Wootbook though. One would think the price you see on the list of laptops is the price you'd pay, until you click on the link to see the rest of the components, only to then realise the prise excludes an SDD, RAM and an OS, so you might as well add at least R5k to the price.

Yea that's the part that got me. It really adds up.

Generally well built, cheaper than premade, and exactly what you order so no fluff

I can recommend them although it's not from personal experience. There are a few other threads where people asked about laptops and Wootbooks were recommended, and they ended up buying them and were happy with the product.

I was looking at one myself last year around this time. What stopped me buying was they only sold the 15.6" version. I wanted the 17", which meant I'd have to import the Eluktronics one for 10k more.

At the time they were one of the few laptops offering a "full" powered 2060 at 115W with an AMD CPU. It was super hard to find a laptop with that spec anywhere, let alone locally.

There is also quite a big Reddit community when it comes to XMG and a rep usually responds to a lot of posts, although I am not sure if that's of any use to Wootbooks.

Yeah, if I had bought another laptop, it would have been a Wootbook. But in the end I got cold feet because I can't deal with 15.6" screens. In hindsight, it kind of worked out because my old gigabyte is plodding on for work and Dota. And the laptop money went to a Series X :D

I have been using this model for around 1 and half years now, using it for mainly software development and gaming. It's been absolutely flawless and extremely light for traveling purposes. Bang for buck, I don't think you'll get a better laptop brand new.

Only cons I got so far are:
1. On Delivery the RAM gave issues, WootWare sorted this out asap.
2. Would have liked one more USB port on the left and the power adapter on the left as well
3. Fans on high speed are quite audible, however this is to be expected on any high end laptop.
4. Second SSD failed about 1 year in, again wootware replaced fairly promptly.

Pros:
1. Absolute beast of a laptop for work and gaming.
2. 2 x nvme 1tb storage which is awesome.
3. Battery life is decent and gets by while I'm traveling.
4. Very light and easy to move around.
5. Lots of customization options
6. RGB is a nice extra

Don't have to get the OS you can just buy a key for like under R1K

How does the touchpad compare to the higher end "name brand" laptops?

I've been using a last-gen wootbook for a few years now, works perfectly. I've always wanted the wootbook metal but have just had no need to buy one.

Tongfang and Clevo are just OEMs for laptops, barring dell, hp and lenovo, I wouldn't be surprised if they make most of the laptops in the world today.. It's great that wootware allow us to buy these direct rather than getting the same machine at a higher cost from a gigabyte/asus/msi just for some 'gaming' logo on the back.

What is the performance on battery and how long can it comfortably last doing video encoding and editing. I am not interested in plugged-in. . :)
