Wootbook, yes/no?

Bro this looks almost perfect for my needs. I would have liked a 1650ti. Buy not bad at all. 32GB ram would also have been nice.

The reviews seem favourable on here, if it's the same model that I found: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenov...-life-and-a-three-year-warranty.530870.0.html

I recommended a Wootbook to a client a year or two ago, after his Asus Zenbook was worn out.

Spoke to him the other day and he mentioned how satisfied he's been with the Wootbook - building quality is sturdy as hell, performance is great - said it surpassed the Zenbook (which was a good workhorse for him) and he'd buy another Wootbook if anything happened to this one.

have you looked at the wootbook metal?
It has a much bigger battery 91.24Wh and no GPU to chow battery life (Integrated AMD Radeon RX Vega 7 Graphic) and the AMD chip Ryzen 7 4800H (previous Gen) for R17000
Would be nice to get someones input who are currently using the device.

(Edit: See power supply is out of stock)

  1. The Wootbook Metal 15 is a top performing low cost laptop - Jason, 24 May 2021
For those of you who are looking for a fast laptop with the latest Ryzen chipset and HD 3D graphics with low latency SSD system speeds and fast multi channel DDR4 ram at the lowest price available. Buy the Wootbook Metal 15, you will not get better for the same price anywhere else.

Cold boots into windows in five seconds. Even under load, opening apps are almost instant. No lag in any of my games, and quality is great. Very impressed with my Wootbook Metal15! I took the optional 1TB SSD and 16gig of ram. You wont be dissapointed!
  2. Excellent Laptop !! Highly Reccomended - Amir, 10 May 2021
I had my skepticism about this laptop until I received it. Its very well made , The battery life is insane. Keyboard is very nice to use. Nice amount of travel in the keys. The screen is perfect for every day use. I even managed to play CS GO at around 80FPS, no hiccups at all. I Highly recommend this laptop to anyone who needs a light powerful laptop
  3. Amazing, but can be even better - Errol, 29 April 2021
Overall this is a great notebook. Great screen, GREAT battery life. Keyboard feels great. Key cap font is "strange" though? Don't know how to explain. But doesn't affect performance.

This notebook is REALLY thin and light, without feeling cheap. The all metal chassis feels nice and stiff.

Battery life: I'm running Ubuntu and can get between 10 and 12 hours of 1080p YouTube playback at medium screen brightness. Or around 2 hours with all 8 cores at 100% non boost usage, all this in a notebook 16mm thick and 1.5Kg!

Fans are off during normal usage, only spinning up under very high loads. Notebook also stays nice and cool, unlike some other high performance notebooks that burn your lap and hands.
Linux: Ubuntu 20.04 installed without any issue. keyboard backlight buttons are handled by the notebook firmware, so that still works under Linux. Only hack I had to apply was to enable the "touch pad upper corner double tap to disable touch pad" feature, which I was able to do with a simple hwdb file.

My only issues are with the BIOS:
    1. There is no way to turn on FN lock. I don't use Function keys and would have preferred to set them to always action their alternative function. If I want to turn up the volume I have to find the Fn key and F10/VolUp key. Would have been nice to have the option to just press the F10/VolUp key.
    2. The notebook does not wake from sleep when you open the LCD. You have to open the LCD and press a key or the power button. To me this is a "quality of life" issue. Don't know what the thinking was there. Under what circumstances would I want to open the notebook and not work on it? And would that outweigh the times when I DO want it to turn on after opening?
    3. Keyboard backlight turns off after 60 seconds of inactivity, forcing me to press a random key to get the backlight back on, then fixing my document to remove the extra character.
All these issues can be fixed by BIOS updates tough.

All in all, very happy! It has both, long run times, and real cpu grunt when I need it.

If your primary consideration is battery life, why not just get a MacBook Air? Even the base model with 8GB of unified memory and 256GB of storage is more than enough for most people, and is cheaper than most premium productivity laptops with Windows. The battery life is crazy - like 15 hours quite easily if you use Safari when not plugged in.

I can't speak for others use cases or the OP. But for me personally the Macbook Air is just a pain in the back end for what I want to use it for.

It seems like I will need to settle saving up longer to get something like the Dell XPS, Asus Studiobook or the Macbook Pro. Wootbooks really do look like they are a bang for the buck, if only they could have managed to get better battery life under load. Yes, I know I am asking for too much. But I have said that before.

I've been using an older Wootbook

Honestly, been brilliant for the price. No problems at all with mine. Well worth it. Actually using it right now, use it every day, well not always on weekends.

What do you want to use your laptop for that would make a MacBook Air a pain?

Sure, it's not for gaming. But as a productivity machine I have loved the hell out of mine. And that's coming from a former lifelong Windows user.

I have tested it. Does not work for me. The rest doesn't matter. If it works for you, sure go for it.

Yeah, I think my use case is different to the average user looking for desktop performance in a laptop.

I have my desktop setup for power use. I just want something I can do some work for 2-3 hours in a coffee shop or when going away for a couple of weeks. It will mostly be admin and CAD modeling and some basic Camtasua video editing. Also want to do my recordings and stuff, so it must be relatively silent as well. The processing of videos or GPU intensive stuff can wait till back at my PC.

Friend got the Lenovo Flex 5 and I tested running Graphisoft Archicad and a 500m² house and super impressed how well it works on battery for the specs. Screen is also beautiful. It lacks massively on the GPU side of things though.

I wanted to buy a Wootbook last year but they were sold out. The big advantage in buying one is that you get Wootware support. Their support is just outstanding.

It has since got sold out with my post and your post :(

Eish that sucks you might be able to find some good deals on an rtx 2060/2070 laptops or check out amazon, just look for an international warranty
