Wootware Increases prices after I view Product

A few days ago I began searching for relevant PC parts to build a new PC.

I found some Okay deals, some from wootware.

I have been occasionally checking in the product pages to check the specs and info to make sure it's what I want every day.
Fast forward to now, I check the products out again and most have increased by R50 each.

No other company does this, it isnt a coincidence the exact products I've been viewing have increased in price.

That is shady AF.

Currencies, availability and prices fluctuate. R50 is nothing just a few months ago prices could swing by a few R100 at the height of the shortage and it wasn't limited to a single retailer, things were pretty volatile.

Yep, price scale with scarcity... and popularity. It is not unethical, unless it is price gouging.
 
This happened the other day to me but with the Multiply Travel website. You have to log in to use the service and you can get some really great discounts on flights.

Anyway, my wife and I are planning to go to Europe next year. Found an awesome special for like R12k for both of us return to Europe. Chatted to the Mrs and we decided to go with it. Logged back in and it was all of a sudden the same flights was R15k. Still really cheap but it jumped R3k in under an hour. I logged out and then back in with my wifes profile, the price was back down to R12k. Needless to say we purchased it.
 
This is why I didn't go into sales.

Used to buy from Esquire(The PC importers). Had a friend that kept asking for a pricelist every week.

After 3 months he said the prices I gave him is dodgy. The ****ing price list is what I get from them. Not my problem you keep looking at prices and not buying.

I still trust Wootware to be doing this for legitimate reasons rather than sneaky tactics. Every experience I've had with them leads me to believe they're genuinely nice people trying to run a genuinely good business.

@Jan can you check with Takealot on their policy of prices changing after they go to your basket? I hadn't checked out yet but removed the offending item after discovering it was R200 more all of a sudden. Highly annoying. I got it elsewhere out of principle.

Seeing as items can sit in your basket for months I'm assuming the price isn't fixed just because it's in there.
 
Yeah this is a challenging situation. I do agree once it is in your basket, price should not change, but I also think that there should be a time limit on how long it should be in your basket. Some websites state the time for how long it is valid for. And if the price has changed once you have exceeded that time frame, you should get a message that said the price increased since you added it and if you still want to proceed.

Amazon for example specifically state that by adding something to your basket does not guarantee the price. Only once you have purchased , check out, an item the price is set.

Wootware is the only online store i trust when it comes to PC hardware etc. If they changing prices im sure there is a valid reason and not because they shady af , if you want shady then buy from evetech.

Nah, if it goes into the basket, the price should stand, if the price has changed, you should be alerted before checkout or they should give it to you at the price.

As for stuff sitting in the basket for months, that's their bad dev work. 12 hours max.

With regards to wootware, you get a notification on the cart/checkout screen when something in your cart has changed price since you've added it to your cart.

Where? I have seen unit pricing on takealot, but never "look at this pen enough times and the price will increase"...

There is no way an online cart or a wishlist can be argued in that way. A basket doesn't give you any ownership, neither is the 'digital' content tangible. The idea to deprive the next willing buyer is... well, dumb.

Do you do sleepovers within Pick n Pay, Woolworths, or wherever, with your loaded trolley next to you until the price is right?

You’re extremely brave. I’ve increased cron job price update frequency to 3x per hour. A certain... fish company :p updates prices more often than I smoke.
