I'm wondering what is the average price that one can expect from a solo freelance web developer using Wordpress as a CMS, for a small business website. Nothing over complicated.

Obviously there are a lot of variables that would effect the price - but what is a reasonable range would you say? So far seen R6000+ from the few web developers that show pricing.

I freelance to small businesses getting them online, charge em R3500 - to modify a premium theme (ie. colors, insert logo, fill in content, plugins, setup pages, maps, , advise on hosting, and give a 2 hour training session too) - sorta like a kickstart website for any business starting out.

However for custom themes, then yes, 6k upwards (actually 10k upwards) would be more like it. Depending on the complexity.

Do yourself a favor.

Join two sites, www.freelancer.com or http://forums.digitalpoint.com.

Here you can request the services of freelancers for virtually anything. Freelancers will bid on your project and you can communicate and choose which one you want to make use of.

I had a company who required a visual-type of database to be designed a time back. South African developers quoted around a R100 000, while some other companies abroad did the same.

On Freelancer.com an active freelancer bid $200 and he delivered the product in 2 days.

The product was perfect, even better that what our client needed.

All my hosting and development gets done through a company near Cape Town. I just had a look and their WordPress Packages starts at R3500, R7500 and R10500 for the custom development. here is their website link www.webnow.co.za

Thanks

For custom designs, 10k and up is right, check out the link in my sig(EccentricHusky) to see some of my custom design work.

Otherwise, naeem is spot on, for customising a wordpress theme, getting all the little bells and whistles going, like contact forms and maps and what not, for a small informational business site, R3500 is reasonable. I include an instructional video series as well - basically just a screencast of me showing the owner how the CMS works, and how to use all the relevant bits.. short 2-5 min videos which come in handy if they want to refresh their memory about something.

I do free development as long as you host with me :)
PM me and we can discuss...

Looking for a quote for a Custom built Wordpress theme can sometimes be a tricky business, since there are strong competition out there. Someone with a strong portfolio can easily charge R10k + for such a project. I charge around R8000 for a custom theme, that include a facebook page as well as social network marketing strategy and I include a training pdf to learn the client exactly how to use his/her own website with Wordpress.

Its always about your spec's but anything custom cannot be below R4500 as the developer is shooting them self in the foot then
