Afrihost hosting. The site itself works fine.

Initially I got an "error establishing connection to database", I changed the SQL user password and updated the wp-config.php file, then I got a 404.

Any idea what I'm missing? Actual noob here.

You didn't leave a space where there shouldn't be one or a comma or a period. It can make a huge difference.

Maybe check the file again just to be sure.

Could you undo what you did and change everything back to see if works.

When you connect your mysql db to your website and it doesnt work with wordpress, doesnt it just give you the setup? a 404 error seems odd.

Did you change the site URL?

The error establishing database connection is a common issue with shared hosting - seen it happen plenty of times with AH. The host usually fixes it - usually you can't do much about it unless you caused the error.

Nope, nothing changed. The issue started out of the blue.

Okay, so I need to talk to Afrihost? Joy.

I had the same problem when my sites were still with Afrihost. Their support staff usually had to sort it out. Decided to get my own reseller shared hosting. Never looked back
