Can't you schedule start-ups for 20 minutes, or however long it takes for your PC to start, before you arrive? :confused:

I wonder how the cost of a small SSD boot drive would compare to the electricity being used to keep the PC running overnight.
 
RDP is superior in every way. Teamviewer is like pointing a camera at your screen. RDP uses it's own software display adapter which is designed for transmitting desktops. There just is no comparing the two.
 
I prefer only having it on when actually using it.
Can't get hacked/infected if the power isn't on..

Not only hacked, but I don't want network admins (domain admins) snooping around my C$ or D$ when I can't keep an eye on it.

Plus it saves power.

If you argued VPN RDP is more secure, then I'll grant you that, but whether or not it's like "pointing a camera at your screen" is immaterial.
FWIW, I find Teamviewer more streamlined than any other remote access software. Each one has its place though.
I use both extensively.

You shouldn't be having private stuff on the work machine anyways...
Also, how do you keep an eye on them checking your stuff over the network? If it's due to screen sharing.

I'm not one to talk though, I set all my machines to sleep/hibernate after an hour away, don't use shut down as I want to keep going where I left off. I use TV if the remote machine doesn't have Pro, otherwise use the built-in windows one.
 
I only work on a laptop.

I don’t switch it off when leaving my desk.

You wouldn't know if they were snooping around on your system even while you were sitting at it.
 
I often have compiles going overnight, and I have a fairly beefy Xeon machine so I often let colleagues crunch numbers on it remotely.

So mine stays on all the time. My uptime at the moment is 8 days, did an update last week.

I would describe it as superiority. One of the best apps for Android is the Microsoft RDP app. Teamviewer is a hack with a shiny UI. It may get the job done, so does a hammer when you need to get a screw into wood.

Plenty of apps that will alert you of remote connections on various ports. Even the generic Resource Monitor can be used to see who is doing what. Then again there is also extensive security logs built into Windows.

Do you even windows, bro?
 
Hibernate feels like cheating to me. I need to get closure for the day and start fresh tomorrow.

Bit difficult for me because sometimes a client can Skype me any time then I don't have time to wait for a PC to start and software to load. Also blocked the annoying windows updates and do it manually.

Yeah TeamViewer is an easy option for skipping port forwarding and all that.

Also not a big fan.

Exactly, and it is way less efficient that the glorious RDP.

Not enough if you ask me, I want to be a domain admin too. Well at least on or local dev domain. Don't want any prod access.
