How many of you who work on a workstation (desktop pc) at work switch it off when you go home? I notice in our office the majority of people leave their workstations on.

Couple of years back I got into the habit of switching mine off whenever I go home, saves power and gives me a fresh start each day.

Only time I'll leave it on is if I know I have to remote in to do something.

My work pc has never been switched off for the last 5 years. It saves me the boot and load times in the morning.

Are you really interested in saving that 1min everyday?

Mine gets turned off everyday.

What does he care if it's a minute or two, he's not paying the electricity bill.

Some companies have a policy to leave them on so they can push updates at night.

Not everyone has a SSD. Ain't nobody got time...

I generally just lock my PC during the week but switch it off before I leave work on Fridays.

I don't care about the bill, but I like to do what I can to reduce my personal carbon footprint where possible.

At the previous place I worked at I used to leave my workstation on and let it crunch for World Community Grid, now I have a Macbook so it just goes to sleep when I take it home with me.

I seem to recall it uses more resources (power) to start up from cold than resume from standby and remain in standby.

Also it wears your machine faster.

So unless you are leaving it fully on I don’t see the point.

I use a laptop that only ever gets turned off when it needs to update.

Mine is on permanently, except when it did it's own updates, sometimes overnight, then it's on the log in scene in the morning. Also hibernated after some time.
