Not really - we can calculate the number of years our star has left before it goes supernova, I think to the nearest million or maybe thousand. Hopefully we'll get a lot more accurate closer to the time, so one day, a long long way from now, we will have a real, substantiated doomsday prediction with evidence. Wouldnt that be nice?

Yeah I have to agree I think the only event I can think of is our sun turning into a red dwarf in like 2 billions years, but as for doomsday, I think it's wishfull thinking from some groups. Perhaps the closest we could come is if that lava cave underneath Yellowstone National Park exploded or some major outbreak of an infectious disease or perhaps another great world war but they certainly wouldn't be the end of humanity or the earth, just a crap load of damage
