Would be burglars / syndicate?

My neighbor that lives across the street from us just called me to tell me that a car parked in front of our house a few minutes ago and that the 2 men inside took photographs of the house and my car. This is unsettling to say the least. He couldn't get their license plate number before they drove off. I drive a Tazz and it's old, so why take photo's of it?

I now feel very anxious...

We don't have enemies that we know of (unless you count the neighbor next door with his incredibly annoying dog). Our house is not for sale.

Only thing I can think of is that someone wants to burglar the house and they might be taking pictures of the house and the car to use for planning / to make sure I'm not at home when they try their luck.

I'm so paranoid now I'm even suspecting the neighbor. He casually asked whether my car has got an alarm and that raised alarm bells for me.

Your thoughts?

EDIT

Some more details. Apparently they stopped in the middle of the road so other cars had to pass in the other lane. The guy taking the photo's (with a proper camera, not a cell) had short blonde hair, the driver had a a cap on. The car apparently looked like the new Terios. My neighbor says the guy lifted the camera at least 4 times to take photo's. Geez, this is driving me craaaaazzzeeeeee.

I wish you were my neighbour. The amount of fun that can be had with paranoid people is priceless :D

I wouldn't suspect your neighbor I mean he lives next 2 you so it will be hard not to find evidence :)

Your neighbour you can probably rule out, I mean he wouldn't drive to your house from next door to take pictures, and I assume he doesn't have short blonde hair?

It's very common for criminals to do background work like this. If you're with ADT I'd inform them and ask for extra patrols, as well as your neighbourhood watch. Let the police know too and just be vigilant for the next few nights I guess. :(

They do sound a little too high class for average criminals though. but a syndicate often works this way.

I would set up a homemade surveillance system with a few cheap webcams or something.

And I would also practice swinging an axe on the front lawn :D

Sounds like a plan (the axe swinging).

Swing the axe at some cans with faces on and shout obscene words! I hate you! Die!! Die!! Die!!

And assuming they already know you have decent sound system start blaring some Pantera or other heavy metal. :p

Pretty sure the above image is related to Jeff Benkert shooting an axe wielding mad man :D

That is why surveillance is NB :) unless OP has a glock under his pillow he best know where they are when they storm the front so he can slip away :D

Ah I suppose it's easy to kid around but the actual issue at hand could be serious. We once had a spate of disturbances on our plot such as knocking on windows at odd hours of the night to dogs going mad. It got quite blatant so fortunately we got in a few security guys to patrol while we were away one day. I kid you not they had a shootout and chased off the would be robbers, confirmed by neighbours as well. This was in Honeydew - Harveston AH, I don't know the company or contact though as it was organized by my family staying on the same plot.

So it is best to not ignore these warnings.

Same thing happened at my bro's place. They threw rocks on the roof for about 3 nights to see if there was any activity. I was alone with my mom one evening and it happened again, so she phoned the security company.

It's the Lowveld. The suckers ran away and a stray Hippo bit the one thiefs Balls off, tearing his entire lower stomach apart. I kid you not. It was something out of this world. Happened around 2007.

Thanks for the advice / jokes guys. I'll be sleeping with one eye open for the next few weeks. Damn this.

sounds more like a private detective at work, so we need to ask, whose wife have you been banging?

We had some guys driving around taking pics of the street signs. Yesterday there was another guy marking the road for new street signs. Maybe something similar?

Nope! I'm not that guy. :-)

We don't have any street signs close to us. Plus they were taking pictures of my car on the lawn and of the house. Not of the street.

Probably just an interested buyer/estate agent.
The house isn't for sale. Could probably be someone that's interested in making an offer, but I doubt it.

This morning at 4:40 we had a huge rat in the roof. I almost freaked. ;-)

ha ha ha.....

But seriaaaas.....

Contact the cops, useless as they are they may be able to patrol past your house more often.

Contact your local security company, so that they too can patrol.

Contact your neighbourhood watch - you do have one, don't you? - let them organise patrols.

Be alert, watch for the vehicle. When leaving home, drive around the block & back to the house to check for activity.
Do the same when coming home i.e. drive past the house 1st, check if being followed. Most likely they will try to break in WHEN YOU ARE AT HOME.
