Tip to get faster police response next time: You should report the crime as in progress, which it basically was when you phoned them. A house burglary in progress is a top priority response, no way you would wait 40 minutes usually. If they think they're just coming to take a report on an attempted vehicle break-in or trespassing this gets far lower priority. Tell 10111 the guy is busy trying to break into your house, no need to lie really. Also try phoning the patrol van or station direct, can sometime be faster but it has no guarantee.
Don't you have a neighbourhood watch or ADT etc in your area? It really helps when they set up a radio network that NW, ADT, Chubb etc and SAPS listen in on. That's what we've got in our area and it works amazingly well most of the time. A similar example to yours, our neighbour saw someone in their yard and hit the ADT panic button, in a few minutes 3 SAPS vans had arrived long before ADT got there even though ADT got the signal first. This was because the ADT control room runs the radio network and SAPS listen in.. if they're being good.
Haha and you'll also get insanely good responses like this every now and again (off the radio control for our area): 2011-06-19 01:50:00: ATT. break in into motor vech nissan sentra CA xxx xxx cnr victoria / dirkie Uys Street southfield. /SAPS, PCNW ,BH security. Dog unit down searching for suspect in king fischer rd. , penguin ,malgas, M5/SAPS infd conf susp caught in fairways parkwood.
