Apparently it has been reported that Dr Wouter Basson has been teaching at Stellies Med School but I haven't been able to find any article about it that sheds any light on it?

Has anyone seen anything and could you provide me a link or at least an extract covering the main points?

I have emailed the Dean and done extensive google searches but the best I've got are some people on Twitter.

After reading through tweets it seems he works at Mediclinic in Durbanville which since last year has hosted some Stellies 4th & 5th year students on rotation and so he has been involved in some of the teaching.

Just asking because it sounds like it could be the next big scandal.

The man should be allowed to find a job and live his life in private now.

Why will it be the next big scandal? He is essentially providing tutorials in practice, his expertise in cardiology has great value to students and other specialists. Why are the people complaining?

Because Open Stellenbosch has caught onto it and now they are all going on about how sick it is that blacks have to be taught by Dr Death.

Rightly or wrongly, I think in the next couple of days its going to be a massive story.

Let it be noted that I haven't really taken a stance on this, just trying to glean more information. This all stems from an argument on FB.

I agree. He is a brilliant doctor and the ANC have been hounding and harrassing him for years but because 95% of the accusations against him are lies nothing has stuck. Time to let him save lives and pass on knowledge in peace

I agree they should let him alone simply because he was found not guilty by the courts despite the mountains of evidence. At the very least he should have been in jail on the drugs charge.

Medical student council wants Basson banned from teaching Maties

Tammy Petersen, News24

Cape Town - Stellenbosch University’s Tygerberg Student Council has called for Dr Wouter Basson to be barred from teaching its students, it said on Sunday.

Chairperson Nick Wayne in a statement said the student council has been informed that Basson teaches select groups of fourth year medical students who are on clinical rotation at Mediclinic.

“We will be entering into conversation with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences to ensure that in 2016 no students are taught by Dr Basson and move to prevent such incidences from reoccurring,” he said.

“We are of the understanding that Stellenbosch University uses Mediclinic as a partner in the education of Tygerberg students and believe the university should review the policies that made students vulnerable to such a situation.”

According to the Mediclinic website, Basson is a cardiologist who offers support services at its Durbanville and Panorama hospitals.

“Basson was the apartheid-era head of the chemical and biological warfare project for the South African government and is accused of multiple crimes against humanity. In 2013, he was found guilty on four counts of misconduct by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA),” Wayne said.

“While acknowledging that Basson is not directly employed by Stellenbosch University, the Tygerberg Student Council hereby issues a clear and unambiguous call to management to effectively bar Basson from any and all contact with students.”

I like the way they attempt to link "crimes against humanity" and "was found guilty". FAIL.

Actually he should stop teaching.

The students don't need his wealth of Knowledge when it comes from one of the leading cardiologist in the country... /facepalm

Yeah, If I was Wouter I'd actually contact Stellies and tell them you won't teach their students since they obviously feel more strongly about their cause than about learning...

All I can say it that those students have no interest in his knowledge which is critical to medicine.

Since the protests, the students are having their way. More changes to be expected...
