anyone using the new cell c and playing wow with it? if so, are you using a proxy server? is it stable? 100% uptime? reasonable ping? etc

I wana knw this too. Gona be in the pta region when using it.

ah right, forgot to add Im in cape town. testing my sisters dongle out, and so far ave latency without battleping is about 650ms. havnt been to dalaran yet, or a raid. cant say Im impressed so far. if there is anyone with more than a half hour's testing time, can you let know please

post some normal speed and ping test from where you are as well please.

mmm my cellphone got 3g atlast after i went to kraaifontein area, so can test cellc if a find my phone cable :P

I bought this Dongle and tested it,

Its not great for wow is my final finding. I ran numerous speed tests and the best I got was 11mb dwn and 4mb up which is amazing.

BUT

Here comes the crunch, I ended up chatting to a guy at the CellC store (When I returned it after 3 days) who is a technical product tester for this product. He plays COD ect and said for online games it isnt very good because the network can not provide consistant results. Which I noticed on all the speed tests I did, every single one I did was wildly different from the previous.

He said till the connection reliability and consistency of the service is improved it will not be good for online gaming. therefore it does not cope well with 100's of tiny packets of data which is what happens with online gaming.

Altho, I have to admit for downloading large files 100Mb and more it was pretty damned impressive. It seems that downloading a large file, as it starts to eat into the file the faster it got.

I have since returned the Dongle and reverted back to ADSL

I heard it will drop your connection to WoW or give lag/latency if it changes towers, so wont work well with raids

I might be getting a 21mbps dongle soon for testing purposes on wow. Will post when I have anything. :)

ps. I'm in East London

LOL

Anything that uses none Line Of sight technology as a data carrier is going to suck for any kind of gaming. Even LoS has its limitations.
And it's primarily due to one major hiccup in the system. Games don't like re-transmitted packets which is what happens if a bird flies by and poops in your data stream while it's trvaeling through the air... or any other trivial signal interference.
Your latency could be fine, your throughput @ 21mbps, but if you are dropping packets you will be dropping raids ;)

3G/WiMax/Neotel etc will do in a pinch but just dont depend on it.

Been playing on a Vodacom 3G 3.6mbps connection with a latency of ~ 400ms using Battleping. Done ICC25 raids aplenty with no dc's or bad latency issues. :) So it is possible to play on wireless with no issues. ;)

Sure, then you probably have LoS to the tower, low contention ratio's and a distinct lack of pigeons/tree's/lightning in your area ;)

I didn't say unusable... I just said unreliable... but then I thought... Telkom...ADSL *doh*

like for like, incumbent telco not included... wired will always beat wireless for reliability.

yea if wired ever gets cheaper than wireless Base cost is close to R600 for a wired solution this just sucks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did some tests on a 35meg/sec satilite link to the sentec tower and got lantecy of over 1000ms.
It seems any wireless conection will have lag issues.

The ISP in SA all think the internet is only in SA so any thing you do offshore will be a problem.
Unshaped , Shaped , Blended , capped ! Uncapped ! what a croc !
Check what you are buying and double check before you sign a contract.

I have used them all and finnally went with 4meg telkom line unshaped never looked back 250ms most days. can't wait for the 10meg upgrade

Currently I'm playing on Vodacom 3g and I'm getting about 650ms on average (since battleping is not free anymore).
This isn't too much of a problem, what bugs me is the fact that you use up easily 200mb of data while doing a full ICC25 raid. Now thats without even using 25man vent/teamspeak. Data is quite pricey with 3g at the moment, and what makes this a problem is if you raid 3x - 4x a week you are going to use loads of data. Not having an option to get a normal line, paying for this data becomes bitch if want to play as a hardcore raider.

Thinking of switching over to Cell C as its data contracts are way cheaper.
Would be nice if somebody could post the average latency you get ingame on wow with Cell C here.

Out of interest, how much will this cost?
