Hey guys,

Just want to confirm whether my 512kbps line's to blame, or something else on my side.
I'm on MWEB Uncapped @ 512kbps and have been experiencing high latencies while in cities and battlegrounds.

Should I be looking at upgrading, or some troubleshooting on my side? Anyone else on 512kbps or lower having similar problems?

I plays onna 384 line, quite fine, 25 man instances.
What's your latency like?

It's normally 280 - 300ms while questing, but in Orgrimmar, instances and battlegrounds it can go up to the 400s and 500s. Problem with my router or NIC maybe?

I'm on MWEB Uncapped
For every person who has great latency on uncapped you have 10 that has problems. Most people I know has some other ISP for WoW.

That's true, but my average latency is decent most of the time. It's only when things get hectic in battlegrounds and in raids etc. where my latency goes haywire. I don't really know what could be causing this.

Are you perhaps playing on USA servers?

No, I play on Stormrage (EU). I'm not sure if it's MWEB's shaping, my router or my NIC, but I only start lagging as soon as things start happening. I flew off to a dark corner of Azeroth and kept an eye on my latency. It didn't change from 262 in over an hour.

But as soon as I got into an instance, my ping went up to 350. I did Tol Barad and my latency went up to 800 at one point, though it felt more like 8000. Pinging the server via the command prompt revealed no problems.

Bizzare, are you peeeeeerharps using some kind of voice communication software other than the usual TeamSpeak or Ventrilo?

Well I could launch into a diatribe on the exponential nature of WoW communication between clients increasing with an impressive factor per person in the area/instance but I won't.

Ever tried 25man Sindragosa trash with everybody doing 20-40k aoe dps on the mobs? World servers can even destabilize and crash with too many people in 1 area due to said communication between every game client. Best you can do is try to get a tunnel service or diff ISP that can handle that extra burst better

So you'd say that it doesn't have anything to do with my setup at home, but rather my ISP? Who'd you recommend?

Conclusion fail.

Investigating all options. There isn't a definite conclusion until I see an improvement.

I'll try the new router, and maybe get some prepaid data at Web Africa. Is their prepaid data the same as their subscription data in terms of shaping and latencies?

I use BattlePing, which is pretty much the same thing. I've decided to get a line-included plan with Web Africa. Is it worth paying for the titanium or 'pro' service?

Conack, are you with Web Africa? Do you have their Home or Home Pro account?

I'm using the WA Titan 20gb Special. (No longer available) So i'd definitely recommend getting both the line + data package from WA. Works out a bit better than buying a couple of gigs straight up.

Some of their engineers play WoW aswell and have gone the extra mile to make sure that the realm servers are on their priority list, meaning good latency even during office hours.

/resurrect

Last night I got my 512k Uncapped Unshapped adsl account from mweb.
I am leading a 25m guild with ventrilo and last night we did Nefarian.

I was watching my bandwidth usage and saw that its reaching the max of 52~54 KB/s and then I promptly get dc'd.
After a couple of dc's, I switched back to my iBurst and saw that the max usage once the adds are up and Ony does a lightning discarge is around 76-80 KB/s without getting dc's but starting to lag.
Before I try and switch over to the 4MB line, I want to know if there is anyone here that is raiding in a 25m guild and using vent at the same time on a 512k line without problems.
