WP vs Blue Bulls...WTF?!?!?

What the hell was going on in this game? The strangest of strangest decisions came to light in this game!!

The TMO try...the person that was able to exactly see what happened there is gifted indeed!! I won't say the TMO made the right decision but certainly not say he made the wrong one!!

But for the rest...man it was bad...
 
Yea tend to agree i thought the Bulls were very lucky at break down time, they constantly seemed to be sticking their hands in the ruck and slowing the ball, but then again thats the rub of the green - the Bulls got away with it !

I thought the ref was bad for both sides !
 
sat in a pub in rooiels with some diehard wp manne and i have to agree that the ref seemed to be watching another game at times - was perhaps the most inconsistent display i have ever seen, especially round the breakdown

the tmo try - (a) the ball was knocked on (out the hand onto the head of a bulls player and the forearm of a WP player) and (b) was not clear that it was properly grounded after that anyway

no way wp should have lost that game

Honestly I think Willie made mistakes and both teams got the worse of it. With regards to ground play I would say the Bulls may have received the shorter end of it all. WP got away with alot more that the Bulls did!

With regards to the try... The try is legit!! I just watched the video again and one can clearly see that it was a try! The ball was not lost forward onto the head of a team mate - was lost straight down or rather backwards! Look at his hand. His hand is facing towards his own try line so it is very difficult to knock the ball forward from such a position. I didn't have a clear view from where I watched on tv so it was difficult to see. Whatch this clip, you properly see what happened!!

I have also just read the explanation on the SA Referees website. It goes alot along the same lines as the explanation that I just gave.

Anyways, there were a few decision which might have undone both teams, but in the end I still believe the Bulls workeed harder for their win!

Unbelievable. Once again a BS explanation from the refs society defending an indefensible decision. The knock on, whilst not entirely clear, is the most likely scenario. Engels ripped the ball from Kuun, knocked it on onto the hand of Kuun. Thats where it stops! No need to look further!

Anyway, who knows which team would have won with a decent ref? So many mistakes.............eish!

I have to add, in defence of refs everywhere, that it is the rules that are the problem. To many, too pedantic. Every situation has more that one infringment taking place. It comes down to interpretation, and that is not a good thing.

Got to agree on this. A ref can blow the whistle almost at any point in a game to penalize a team for some infringement or another, without being technically wrong. It's time to simplify the rules.

Help!! Everyone asks every year for a foreign referee to officiate in the currie cup because they wouldn't be bias toward any team, and now SA Rugby gets flack for doing so...any don't know any more!!

I think its a good initiative!! The local refereeing unions has been doing this for ages now. Every now and again this type of thing is happening, this is the first time however that it happens internationally. Again, I think it is a really good thing and will most definately help our referees to grow in their game!!

Not sure about the "everyone" but I'm sure they wanted good refs when they asked. Not ones who are comming over to remediate their game because they're not cutting it back home!

This year Bowden refereed in Super 14 and was going well but for some reason took flak for a match between the Reds and the Force in Perth - a poor match with difficult scrums for which the referee was given some of the blame, which seemed harsh. That was the last of his Super 14 refereeing this year.

While he was here later in the Super 14 as a touch judge, he got into conversation with André Watson, South Africa's refereeing manager, and Tappe Henning, and [sic]IRB selector. Part of getting back on track was to come to South Africa to referee.

Shock and horror!!!!!!!:eek: I really thought he had ridden off into oblivion, never to effect a rugby match again!


Edit: Mielie - we have had and still have the best refs in the world in Andre Watson, Jonathan Kaplan, hell even Freek Burger is still around. They were and are the best. We don't need a bloody Aussie to show us how to ref or "help our referees to grow in their game" unless it's to show them what not to do! :D

it was a crazy game. why the bulls got a scrum close to the WP line, which led to the try only the ref knows. It should have been a 22 dropout, since the ball crossed the line. Shocking. :eek:
 
Willie P00$ killed the game. :D
His refereeing at the breakdown was shocking!

I think it was a 5m scrum cos WP carried it back into the try area and the Bulls charged the kick down, hence 5m Bulls ball!

Well, if you think the ref was bad in this game,... he was completely confused in Bulls v Sharks game..., don't get me wrong the tackle on Jaques Botes can not be appreciated, but a red card?

Consistensy should be the name of the game, where is the red card for Marius Joubert and his tackle on Jaques Botes in the Cheetah v Sharks game...

Lastly the biased commentary lately of Joel Stransky on M-NET, that is ticking me off also...
 
The ref in the Sharks vs Cheetahs game was beyond ridiculous, he got his calls and interpretations wrong most of the time, no wonder there was alot of chirping from the sharks, but he also gave a few shockers to the cheetahs, both sides can feel aggrieved.

The reason Morne Steyn got a red card is that the IRB are trying to stomp spear tackles out of the game and anyone who is guilty of that will receive a red card so they can be made examples of, which begs the question of marius joubert not getting a red card for his spear tackle? Incompetant refs should be sent for training and not used as guinea pigs in the currie cup.
