Hello All

I have a funky issue with WSUS and Server2k16.

Initially I installed WSUS with the built-in Windows database. But it kept on bombing out. One issue was that the IIS thread was not getting enough RAM. So I fixed that - but it still kept bombing out.

Then I zapped it totally.

Installed SQL Server2012, and used that as the WSUS database (reinstall of WSUS). And it worked. Downloads was just slow (but it seems that it is a M$-designed brainfart thing).
Problem is SQL server licencing costs =
So this is not really what we want.

Is there a way to get WSUS to use MySQL or MariaDB instead of SQL Server?

I haven't built a WSUS server in years, last time I did was on server 2008R2, with the internal database, it also used to bomb out every now and then, might have been the 1000+ clients, not sure. Getting rid of SCCM in a few weeks time and will build a 2016 WSUS and use MSSQL database and see how that goes.

Good luck with that. Just be patient with the slow slow slow downloads.

It's been a while since I've managed WSUS in an enterprise environment.

My WSUS issues were never server related though, more client related, clients not receiving updates even when placed in the correct groups or clients ignoring policies & rebooting when I didn't want them to.

Best of luck.
