WTF ADSL down again ?

That'll be the third network fault reported today. The other two, neither of which seem to be completely fixed yet:

STT000000004267 12 Sep 2005, 19:01:30 IS Peering - Access Circuit Failure
STT000000004265 12 Sep 2005, 16:35:00 WBS-IP-ESR-1 - Link down

and they seem not to be in a hurry to fix it ...

I suspect that the network failures are caused by the complete lack of competence of their emplyees, rather than by equipment malfunction. Considering my experience with telkom employees it seems that they come straight from the banana trees.

My whole ADSL is down now, SENT_PADI message from the router. Phoned Telkom support and after 10 minutes they guy told me there are network problems in my area and they are working on it. I asked him how long it will take and he said he didn't want to lie to me.

At least he was honest.

This is so crap.

what's the point, isn't local going to be under the cap from 1st November anyway?

The point is to get around international shaping so one can play wow and thus abuse the internet by consuming 4mb/hr, but now cant even log onto the proxy.

gmail appears to be working but my hotmail is a distant memory.

Telkom sucks like electrolux.

Not for me.

I can't get into gmail or avantgo but other international sites appear to be working.

Typical that the two that I need now are down, the others I wouldn't miss till morning but they are up.

Very strange :(

Slightly better now!

Things seem a bit better now. But these last two weeks have been hell. During office hours everything is so slow, after 19:00 it hardly improves.

What is happening?

I have problems accessing some (but not all) international sites.

No Gmail, no Hotmail, no joy :(

By the way, the SAIX noticeboard says the problem is resolved, but I cant see any improvement

I hate telkom!!!

I cannot compete with the terminology in this thread... however, I am so happy that I'm not alone. I waited for 43 minutes for the service desk to answer my telephone call and the guy there assured me that there was no problem with International browsing other than in Cape Town. He wanted me to unplug my router... te da... I said I had this problem on Friday night as well, it is not the router, there HAS TO BE SOMETHING WRONG AT YOUR END (shouting at him now) and he goes... are you in the Rosebank area perhaps? Well... yesssssssssss...
OK, there's a problem in Rosebank.
My Gawd... how can we even accept this?
Please tell me there's a way out of this mess.
My intanet she's not wehking...

Some kind of record?!?!?!?!

I'm sorry for posting again, but this is beyond frustration
It's like standing in line for bread from the ONLY baker in the country and they tell you they forgot to buy flour or yeast or whatever and they forgot to turn the ovens on for the day
It's not like we have an alternative, we are all stuck because there is a monopoly in this business
While the world around us is trading, communicating, having fun, we are posting our frustrations on a website
Maybe someone should forward this thread to The Star or another major newspaper and make it headlines like the neverending power failures we also have to endure here in Jhb. It boils down to the same thing - money charged for maintenance is not used for maintenance

Is this mainly a problem in Gauteng (e.g. Joburg/Pretoria)?

or are there people in other regions experiencing problems?

i'm in pta - using axxess as my isp - i'm completely down - the dsl light on my modem seems to indicate a connection - but i cant obtain an ip address. Also had no luck getting hold of axxess's help line - i wouldn't even bother tryin to phone telkom. Anyboody else got same prob? Thank god for gprs!!!

the money we pay for this... and are helpless!

Paying telkom for internet is like farmers paying tax in zimbabwe.
