WTF Afrihost

It looks like there is an ongoing DDoS attack at Gallo Manor, we've got a Server Admin at Gallo Manor logging the fault directly with MTN Business. I'll post updates as I receive them.

Eskom DDoSd MTN? :p

Define online. DDoS still ongoing? Because my site felt slow, could not understand why, seems I am getting massive packet loss on my side? IP 197 242 144 104

have pingdom monitoring on my cloud server, seems there's another issue with packet loss at the moment

Hi!

I know this latest server outage was immensely frustrating, but I'm afraid in this instance there was nothing we could do to prevent this from happening.

You're talking kuk. You have choices wrt data hosting companies. Your provider has a history of failures, sucks donkey balls.

Htf does multiple generators fail & equipment get damaged if you have good infrastructure?

I agree, the datacenter manager has some explaining to do. Generators/UPS and its failover must be tested regularly.
And if both A and B power feeds went down at the same time which is supposed to be two separate UPS and generator power systems.

Just one of the reasons I only host overseas. Probably wanted to keep this under-wraps and see if it fixes itself, but then it got so real it all went to **** and in the course of this no one bothered to really inform people...

As far as I know, a SMS notification should have been sent out once the notice was added to the website. Can you guys please let me know if this wasn't the case.

I went through the client zone this morning and noticed not under hosting but account settings there is a little tick box to receive notifications of outages...guess that's the reason for not receiving notifications... one thing i can say is i really enjoy the Afrihost Client zone...but i can confirm that most problems started with MTN merge...

It looks like there was another DDoS attack from a new set of IPs last night around the time you were reporting the packet loss. This would have caused the packet loss that you experienced to the server.

That option should be enabled by default, I assuming it wasn't in your case?

At the moment there is definite room for improvement, and we're working with them to make sure something like this does not happen again.

Got bombarded with "HTTP 503?!!11one" complaints just as I got home. I'm sorry, cannot handle the onslaught anymore... just finished moving the domain to serv. Hosting moved to the states.

Second time now where I had to blame downtime on "afrihost". Client(s) does not believe me. Rightfully so.

Same here unfortunately I have to ride out since the.stuff is still up and down and moving hundreds of gigs of data is risky

But yes officially almost not a Afrihost customer anymore.

Till they kick mtn.

No matter what one does, it is risky. The specific server I moved my hosting to ... is having connectivity problems this morning. :headagainstwall: :headagainstwall: :headagainstwall:
That Murphy is a bugger.
