Downtime is one thing but the lack of communication from Afrihost is unacceptable to me. IIRC, Media Temple had an epic fail over multiple days with their shared hosting service a few years ago, IIRC (I try to forget that horror). At least their commander-in-chief gave a progress report during recovery and a post-mortem, besides the expected refund, of course.
Regarding the notifications @AfriGenie asked about earlier in this thread, I checked just now in the client zone and my details are correct and notifications enabled. I've not changed anything in recent months. I've not received updates since May 3.
