At first I thought I was alone, but now, I have my parents and now my mate in Durban, we all experience the exact same problem with our ADSL lines.
The line starts crackling when you listen on the phone. This of course causes the router to drop the ADSL connection repeatedly, when it does stay up, packet loss is tremendous.
In some cases, like on my line, the line either goes dead totally i.e. no dial tone, zilch, and then when you phone the line from a cellphone, suddenly it comes to life.
In my case the line also becomes seized i.e. if you pick up the phone you keep hearing the beeps, and the volume thereof fades, if your telephone has an "IN USE" LED indicator, this becomes dimmer and dimmer.
I am now on my 7th fault reference. Last night the line went totally dead. This morning Telkom sent me an SMS to tell me the line is "free of defects" which is absolute bull****
Can anyone shed some light on what the heck is going on?
