Ok i have implemented that in V1.2

My program will search for some commonly used paths for vlc (for 32 bit and 64bit OS installations) and if not found it will ask you for the path. The path will then be saved to config.vlc for future use and you wont be asked for a path unless you re-install vlc in a different location.

LOL like I said i'm not a programmer and I use a program called winautomation that only generate Windows .NET binaries, so unfortunately, no.

If anyone know how to dis-assemble a .NET executable and compile it for Linux or Mac, speak up.

edit: did a guick google and found this regarding linux and the mono framework:

Maybe you can try the method they describe and give some feedback....

Most .NET binaries work with MONO on Linux, assuming there aint too much WIN32 specific code. So they can give it a try and see if it works.

Excellent everdude! You are the dude! It works perfectly on my Win7 64bit with VLC2.0.0
 
enerdude it worked 100% for me. Surely you can get the streams "clickable" rather than entering the id though?
(running win xp, vlc 1.1.11)

It might sound simple but actually the program I use to generate these executables [winautomation] does not have such an option in its GUI elements. It was not meant to be a programming language.
I had a look - the next best thing i can do is give a drop-down box selection dialog. This will basically involve 3 mouse clicks in total.

I might change the input method to this in a future version together with some other changes I want to incorporate (such as overriding the selection by entering a channel id that was not found on the website, but that you know is valid)

i cannot seem to get this to run on vlc. it just comes up with vlc, but nothing playing.
am i doing anything wrong

Is that the case with all of the channels in rtmpGUI? Remember that some channels goes down at stages.

Also make sure you are using a version of VLC that support input from stdin. You can download the latest nightly build from http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win32/
If you are using the same vlc version that works in my program it is obviously not a vlc version problem

can you not create a listing of what is currently working or playing everytime you opening it or refreshing the channels.
what about the full dstv bouquet channels? (just trying my luck now)
on a serious note how can you add your own channels in the list

That is normal. Depends on different factors e.g. your internet connection speed, bandwidth available on host hosting the stream, amount of people actually streaming it at the same time etc.

It is basically a process of trial and error. Some channels are submitted by people like you and me but sometimes get shut down due to copyright issues. The list is maintained e.g. new channels added and dead ones removed but that depends on the people contributing to the rtmpGUI program. You have a option of "load remote channel list on startup" in the program options - so use that in case you want to always have the most up to date list [as maintained by all contributors] Press Ctrl-R to refresh the remote channel list [updated by contributors].

Yeah you are really trying your luck. It must exist somewhere before you can play it. Send me a web page that contains these streams and I will extract the necessary parameters to play it in vlc

Right click anywhere in list and select "add channel". You will need various parameters. You will get these by analyzing the source code of web pages that contain the stream or by using parameters extracted by others and that they have posted on the net.
You can learn more by going to this forum: http://stream-recorder.com/forum/
There is also a program called rtmpexplorer (a special web browser) that can get the parameters for you after entering a web page that has a live stream / video on it. Google it / and or search abovementioned forum for rtmpexplorer
