XBMC Tips, Tricks, Troubleshooting

Tried it the other day - and cant say it was working 100% either (had to actually open the youtube app on the XBMC, view a video manually, before yatse actually started to work.

Will wait and see if Gotham makes it perform better:)

also an Ex-openelec - moved to pc. Openelec didn't provide the correct direct 3d drivers, thus visuals while playing music was rather old/crap.

will consider openelec only on low power devices like a PI

I'm on Gotham nightlies and it still happens...

My Yatse is working perfectly. Send to Xbmc does not go into a loop. I use this functionality quite regularly.

Oddly enough it doesn't happen using my tablet as a remote - only on my Note 2. It might be device-specific, but still an issue with Yatse imo...

I gave up using my pi as a media server - too slow and too many issues. It's sitting in a drawer now...

As a server I'd imagine it would have troubles, but as a media client running nothing but raspbmc there should surely be no troubles at all?

Yep, Raspbmc, but tried everything else under the sun as well. Just S--------L--------O----------W! Tried all different power supplies, different SD cards, Stripped it down to a bare-bones skin and everything. Click on a menu, go fetch a beer, menu is just opening when you get back from the fridge. Nah, not for me. Anyone wanna free PI?

Sure, I'll take it off your hands...:p

Exactly what I have. Only runs raspbmc - for me it runs perfectly. I have NFS shares on my download server and everything just works.

PM me your postal address, it's yours. It's a model B, latest gen, given to me by a client who didn't know what it was. I can post it counter to counter, post office - will wrap it well!

Sure thing. I'll cover the postal costs. Will PM you shortly...

damn did i miss a PI give away again....

:/

*cries*

but anyhow -slow speed is very weird - i had it running fine as well (eg browsing /playing with openelec). Have to admit it went a bit slower with non-standard skin's, but maybe at most a minute to open a list of 300 shows / 4000 movies.

using Mysql as a server though...

once playback has started no issues is noted.

bonus i liked about the PI was that it supported my tv remote (thus backwards controlling the PI through the HDMI) +- 2 year old LG for the win :D. only needed to give the PI a LAN power and HDMI and i was sorted. Only time i needed stronger power supplies was when i had to power a 2.5" external via the pi(it failed on me as a downloader.... -very very very slow on verifying SAB downloads (eg verify /extract takes longer than the actual download)

Yup :D

My main openelec media centre is a full pc with good specs and is lightning fast and rock solid reliable. Just couldn't handle all the lag and waiting for the poor little PI to think and ruminate over every command it got...

It's a waste having it sitting in a drawer though, when someone could make use of it.

have to agree - will consider the PI only if i ever setup a spare / bar TV. Main Tv room needs to be quick and friendly :D

Cheap secondary openelec setup, sits in the spare room.

Samsung 19" screen I had lying around, laptop mainboard from an old fujitsu siemens. 3 Gb memory and a Core2 Duo with openelec running on the little 80 Gb sata HDD. Pulls all media from my main server over the network. Has a flirc connected and an old Media Centre remote. Works like a bomb. Totally silent too - removed all the fans and just glued old heatsinks to everything that gets warm - rarely runs over 40 degrees celsius even when paying HD vids.

Before I had the Flirc and Harmony I used my phone and tablet, the physical feel of a real remote is just so much better.

That I do agree with, but I've become so accustomed to the phone that it's now just as easy for me to use. I'm looking forward to cellular tech that replicates texture upon screen presses...
