Guys - please see if you can give me some advice here.

I want to use my Xbox through my Samsung 2333 as I am sure the picture quality will be better than my Sony vega TV, but I have a few questions.

Firstly I use 2 x 2333SW's on my PC and I don't really want to keep swapping the cables on the monitor to use pc or xbox, does the xbox VGA cable run on standard VGA or is it DVI? If it is standard VGA then I could run the Xbox on Analog on the monitor and PC on Digital, thus avoiding having to change cables, I would just need to change the source on the monitor.

Secondly for sound, can I plug the digital cable that comes with the VGA cable into my pc sound card? How does this work?

Lastly, where is the cheapest way to get a xbox VGA cable, it doesnt have to be original.

O ya, and I was wondering, is it possible to use your 2333 as a TV, not from your pc with a tv card, but though your DSTV decoder?

Hi,

yes you can get the official xbox to vga cable, i use it on my samsung 2333.

The xbox vga cable runs on standard vga. But you'll still need to swop cables? Unless I'm not understanding correctly?

Yes. If you use the spdif (toslink) connection from your xbox, you can connect it to your sound card (if it has a spdif input). Then you just have to enable the spdif passthrough option everytime you want to use the xbox.

Thanks for the info Retro.

I wouldn't need to swop it then as the 2333 monitor has both VGA and DVI connections, I use DVI for my PC, thus I will use the VGA slot for the Xbox. All I will need to do then is change the source from analog to digital.

Ah I see. Yup, that will work perfectly.

I'm currently using my Xbox on the exact same monitor. It works like a dream. Xbox connected via (official - Kalahari) VGA cable (1920 x 1080) and PC via DVI.

P.S. There's been some negative reports on the generic VGA cables so I just decided to pay extra and get the proper one.

Thanks Darkwater, that is not a bad price either. Can you tell me, does that have the optical audio cable included? I want to plug it into my pc's optical slot.

Only the physical port - no cable :(

Ah ok, think that will be a mission then because my pc is already hooked up to my sound via RCA, so I assume I will need to swop sound cables everytime I want to use either my pc or Xbox, thats why I would want the optical sound output.

Edit: I found this one on Kalahari with optical out and not a bad price.

Excellent product that. 3rd party but fantastic performance.

I can beat that price through, with a Dragon Electronics made 360 VGA cable (R180 excl. shipping). Has optical output and gold plated connectors.

Not sure I can beat the 7 working day shipment period though ...

I think you got me confused. The cable I originally linked to has a optical connector.

Thanks maestro, will let you know.

Guys, can you please just help me clear something in my head. I want a cable with optical out, ok so the xbox VGA cable on Kalahari.net I think comes with optical audio out, but do I then need a optical cable that plugs into my VGA connector to my pc optical port?

You can't really see the optical connection on the above pic but you'll find it located on the big connector that plugs into the xbox

It however does not include the following so that will be a separate buy...

I've bolded the part in your quote because what you're saying is extremely confusing. If you want to use optical audio, then yes, you need to buy the above optical cable but I don't get the part about plugging it into your PC. The optical cable gets plugged into your speaker system/amp.

Thats Dark, appreciate the info.

Ok so I am now understanding this a bit better. With regard to plugging into the PC, I know my PC has a optical audio input, however I dont think my logitech x530 does. Can I not plug into from the xbox cable into the PC and play the sound through the speakers that way?

Very unlikely. The chances are high the the port on your PC is an output for when connecting optical supported speakers to your pc.

The Logitech x530 system does not seem to have an optical connection..

Ok, think I am starting to get the picture :)

Ok so essentially I will have to swap the RC's around depending on if I want to play PC or Xbox....The xbox doesnt have headphone jack does it?
