Xbox 360 Blu-ray rumour debunked

it was a rumor to begin with and now the 360 guys are already talking about a release date...

Optimistic comes to mind... get a ps3 and whoala, problem solved!

Now now. Play nice. Just R400 over the elite, we got a lot of nice extras. ;)

Yup, the cheapest PS3 R400 more than the most expensive Xbox, not really a good selling point there.

Why do you think the Xbox Arcades are selling so well? Not everyone wants all those extras that Sony is forcing down your throats.

There is no such thing as the cheapest PS3...all PS3's are basically the same with the size of the HDD and game bundle contributing to the retail price....

And 2nd point, you might be right about not everyone wants all those extra's that Sony offers, but most people do (including you) and Sony is not forcing it down anyone's throats ...

How many of your cellphone features do you use or get the opportunity to choose which you would like or not ? Your satellite decoder ? Any CE device ? The Arcade was a very shrewed and bad decision by Microsoft, not just for the buyers, but for the entire community...you obviously realise that any game released will need to be supported by the lowest denominator, that means when a development team are building a game for MS, they gotta assume every SKU has no hdd...Sorry if you bought one with an HDD, it means nothing, same as the person that bought a HD DVD add-on drive, it's worthless...

Back to the features by Sony that is critical to their system and the reasons u know you want it !

1. Next generation optical disc format : WHY ?
*It holds up to 50gb of data with possibly up to 500gb in the future for HD entertainment.
*It is scratch resistant (I've bought over 30 2nd games and never had a problem with 1)
*It has a very cool name !

2. Blu-Ray and upscaled DVD playback : WHY ?
*If you got an HD panel, the only true HD content is on blu-ray
*Watching DVD's...have it upscaled..

3. Wireless : Why ?
*Don't have wires running to my PS3....
*If I decide to move my PS3 to the bedroom or another room, i don't need to worry about the cables.
*My PSP and Phone can connect via wireless to my PS3!

4. A Hard-drive ...WHY ?
* My network, phone (N91) and even satellite decoder (PACE HD) has hard-drives, it's crazy to consider that any entertainment device cannot have a HDD...how do i download DLC like guitar hero songs, batman AA or MW2 map packs without a HDD!

I hate stating the obvious, but the equation looks something like this:

PS3 > 360.

Quite elementary, really.;)

Well done on buying a cheap 360. Now try upgrading the HDD and NOT voiding your warrenty at the same time.

You have a RROD death? Shame poor you.

You have to pay to play online? Unlucky again.

I'l stick with my PS3 thank you very much.

ever heard te word "CHEAPSKATES"?

Its cause they still upset they were tricked into believing it was necessary :p

Ah, my favorite PS3 Fanboi fan again! :D
It is' necessary to play the most advanced games in the world only available on the PS3 like we do now. Without the BR you would not be able to ie. cannot use niether enjoy the PS3, just like you cannot enjoy the Xbox with the limitations of the Arcade SKU. You were caught the sucker, You were led to believe the Xbox can do EVERYTHING untill you unpacked the thing and realised you now have to save for upgrades to use it to it's fullest extend. Shame! Well suckered.

BTW what cell do you have/use? :D

I still don't see anything wrong with the Arcade? Believe it or not, there are people who won't use any of the PS3 features and use it for *gasp* gaming.

Besides, the benefits of this super 50GB storage over a DVD are marginal, at best. I've stunned many people who came, thought the PS3 was the biggest thing ever - and yet couldn't tell the difference between the two when looking at graphics.

This on both LCD, plasma, half HD, full HD, 40 and 46"

I call those people "The Uninformed".
They are typically very casual gamers, only differentiated from Wii owners by their aversion to "waggle", although they are more often than not one and the same thing. "The Uninformed" are the same group of gamers who purchase cheesy once-off, unknown gaming machines, use it a couple of times before relinquishing it to the basement to begin its inevitable journey of dust-gathering.
Does anyone take them seriously? Yes and no. From a sales perspective, a resounding yes, since the bigwigs are often dependant on the easily impressionable minds of "The Uninformed". From a gamer perspective, it's just simply no...;)

Dolby : You do make a point, but an argument can be made for nearly every perspective. A few facts that cannot be ignored for this generation when it comes to gaming, comparing the lowest common denominator for each manufacturer :

1. Sony is the only console with HD output (i.e. HDMI)
2. Sony is the only console with hard disc.
3. Sony is the only console with the appropriate disc format for this generation (even in 2005, it should have been demanded for scratch resistant high capacity optical drives that avoid multiple-disc games.)

It's true that most multi-platform games looked better on the 360 and even probably still continue to do so...but this is largely related to the porting exercise and we all know that in most cases the difference is neglible.

Where the 360 guy really loses out is if he is not tech savvy and not understanding the current or future restrictions he is accepting by buying a console without a hard-drive, or without blu-ray or wireless....he might either be buying it cos it's cheaper or the mis-informed sales consultant is a blonde leading the blind...
